The footage below was captured in the city of London. When we compare both the scenes from the movie and from real life, the similarities are evident. Smartphones, computers, smartwatches and many other tools allow us to be present in an actual and in a virtual reality at the same time. It is a different way of thinking about the spacetime continuum, since researchers believed for many years that we could not be in two different places at the same time.

According to Levy, "systems of virtual reality transmit more than images; they transmit a quasi-presence". In other words, this systems seem so tangible that living in actual and in virtual realities can feel almost the same. I believe this possibility to be in two places at once has positive and negative aspects. The positive being that we can travel the world and meet new people without physically leaving our homes, and the negative being that we are at risk of not being entirely present in either realities ever, therefore not enjoying moments fully. It is like being a god that is omnipresent but not omniscient.

Is it a good solution, though? Is a machine capable of love just like a human being? Or did they just developt enough intelligence to convince us that they truly love us?

From my personal standpoint, both Theodore and this man are looking for scape because they cannot face the actual world. They have been hurt and they look for an utopian relationship to heal. I can see this becoming more and more commom as AI continues to evolve: people avoiding real contact with other human beings to run away from real feelings. It is much easier to be with someone who only agrees with you and say what you want to hear, like Samantha and Miku, than dealing with different opinions and worldviews. "Her" ends with Samantha leaving Theodore. It might have seem sad to some people, but I believe he was finally free of his alienation. The man who married Miku might not be as "lucky" and end up stuck in that virtual world forever.

In the end, our virtual bodies can be dangerous if we cannot understand the difference between them and our actual bodies. Then, we become easy to manipulate, not by the machines themselves, but by the institutions behind them.
