In other words, this systems seem so tangible that living in actual and in virtual realities can feel almost the same. I believe this possibility to be in two places at once has positive and negative aspects. The positive being that  we can travel the world and meet new people without physically leaving our homes, and the negative being that we are at risk of not being entirely present in either realities ever, therefore not enjoying moments fully. They have been hurt and they look for an utopian relationship to heal. I can see this becoming more and more commom as AI continues to evolve: people avoiding real contact with other human beings to run away from real feelings. It is much easier to be with someone who only agrees with you and say what you want to hear, like Samantha and Miku, than dealing with different opinions and worldviews. "Her" ends with Samantha leaving Theodore. It might have seem sad to some people, but I believe he was finally free of his alienation. Then, we become easy to manipulate, not by the machines themselves, but by the institutions behind them.
