What specific creative/technical risks did you take in this group of studies?


  • In this group of studies I worked heavily on working through techniques that I am not comfortable with as well as a new technique of using the pallet knife actually on my painting. 


What were the various subjects you explored and what remains interesting to you now?


  • I explored some abstract pieces that i did not particularly enjoy, but I did enjoy making pieces of faces or body parts and would like to continue with that. 


Which are the most interesting/most “successful” studies to you? Give specific examples of formal elements/imagery/concepts and discuss why those are strong/engaging.


  • The most successful studies to me were the bananas and how I used the pallet knife to swipe the paint down as well as apply the paint. Another successful study to me was the side profile of a nose and mouth. 


Which are the least interesting/least “successful” studies to you and why? How might you improve these if you were to continue working on them or to try the study again?


  • I did not enjoy the abstract. I don’t feel like I gave it enough energy because I did not enjoy the output of it. 


Describe your studio practice during this project.

  • I worked in class as well as out of class later at night, I would come in and paint whatever I found interesting to me at that moment.
