Bone growth is heavily influenced on both protein and calcium. An adequate intake of protein and calcium are important for bone density. Research has found that although a high amount of protein may increase calcium removal, this is balanced out by the increase in calcium absorption in the intestines. This means that both protein and calcium is needed for bone strength but be taken in the right amount.

To prevent Osteoporosis, you have to maintain bone health through intaking calcium, vitamin D and exercising regularly. You should also have a consistent nutritious diet and avoid smoking as well as drinking. Doctors have discovered that not maintaining hormone levels can cause the loss of bone calcium.

Osteoporosis is caused by the loss of mineral content in bones. Changes in hormone levels can decrease bone density. Menopause can cause Osteoporosis in women as the level of oestrogen falls after it occurs, which can affect bone density. The risk of osteoporosis increases in men who have low levels of testosterone. Lack of physical activity, smoking, excessive intake of alcohol, specific diseases, etc. can cause osteoporosis.

Does Protein Raise the Risk of Osteoporosis?

Many studies have shown that there are benefits to the bones by intaking protein and that protein actually helps with bone mineral density. Having a low intake of protein is very harmful to the density of the bones and also affects skeletal growth. If there is not enough protein in the body, muscles and body tissues would be weak which would also lead to higher risk of getting hurt and having fractures.
