First we started our topic by writing the key concept, related concept, global context and SOI. Then we learnt the definition of acids and bases and in that we wrote some examples of acids in plants and animal origins. Followed by the 7 hazards of acids. After that we learnt the types of acid and some acids like Sulfuric, Nitric acid. We also learnt the chemical formulas of those acids. Mam made us learn six acids, their formulas and where they are used. In last, we got to know about the base, its examples, properties. Then we got to know about indicators, their colour in acids, bases. We also learnt about the indicators in fruits like red cabbage, beetroot and black currant. And to end our unit we learnt about the litmus paper and its effects on lemon, orange, vinegar and more. And in last, we got to know about the PH scale. Overall we had fun learning.

After we knew them it got easier for us to understand it.

We had already learnt a little about acids and bases in the previous class, so it wasn't that difficult for us to understand the unit.

We learnt about many things we started with the basics. Acids are sour where as bases are bitter. Acids can range from the pH 1-6 and bases 8 - 14 where as 7 is neutral. We also learnt about indicators which tell you if a thing is an acid or an alkali (base).
we also learnt about neutralization which is basically making a thing close to neutral. Another thing is acid rain and its effects. It was a really nice unit. We also learnt about the pH scale where we saw which things are strong acids, some are weak acids, and the other way for bases.
It was a nice start to Chemistry!

Hello everyone.
Today i will be sharing with you all what all we learnt through this super in interesting unit,
It was super fun too.
It was all about everyday acids and bases.
We learnt about the properties of acids and bases.
Acids have a sour taste, they are corrosive, strong acids produce hydrogen ions when in contact with water, strong acids can burn surfaces in which they are in contact with.
As for bases, they are bitter in taste, corrosive and have a very slippery feel to the hand.
But how do i know whether if how to test what is an acid and what is a base ?
Well, it is practically pretty easy.
We can use something called as an indicator which can help. there are many types of indicators. If we use the colors of the ph scale we can easily get to know.
For example, turmeric. It is a natural indicator !!
When a base comes in contact, the solution turns reddish brown.
When an acid comes in contact, the color yellow remains.
Even limus paper is an indicator.
It is made of lichen.
This is in breif, but this was an amazing topic.

But how to find out if a substance is acid or base?
its a ph scale. What is a ph scale? It means a scale that has numbers from 0 to 14. 0-6.9 is an acid and from 7.9-14 is a base.

I love science from the very beginning and my tryst with chemistry began last year when my mother showed me some simple experiments at home. This year I was very happy to learn the acid base chemistry in detail.
In the beginning we were briefed about the key concepts, Related concepts , SOI and global context.
Then began the interesting topic of Acids and Bases. We started by learning the properties of acids first. It was really interesting to know how acids are common in our everyday life like the acids in lemons, ant sting and so on. This was followed by the properties of bases . After learning this I did some experiments at home mixing vinegar and baking soda.
This was followed by learning about the ph scale of acidity and basicity. I got some pH paper from my mom's school and tested the pH of different substances present at home.
We also learnt about indicators and tried making one with beetroot it was a pH indicator.
This was followed by learning about neutralisation reaction and the various examples associated with it.
We also learnt about the acid rain and air pollution

This brings us to our next topic- Neutralization.

Neutralization-
When a base and an acid come in contact, they cancel out each other, creating a salt, which is neutral.

Neutralization's Uses-
Neutralization can be seen everywhere.
It can be seen when someone dared to throw stones on a honeybee hive and the person got bitten by quite a few bees. The bee sting is acidic, (contains methanoic acid) so calamine lotion is applied on them. Calamine Lotion is basic.
It can be seen in toothpaste. The toothpaste is a base, which neutralizes the acid created by bacteria in your mouth.

It can be seen in farms. We need neutral soil for plants to grow. However, sometimes the soil becomes acidic. Why?
This brings us to the topic-

Air Pollution and Acid Rain-
Nowadays, big amounts of smoke and harmful gases are being let out by big industries and factories in big amounts. We know the consequences of air pollution such as this, but there is one more impact: Acid Rain.
The Ph of rainwater is normally 5.6. However, because of air pollution, harmful gases get mixed with the water vapor. These gases, which are highly acidic, settle in the clouds with the water vapor and mix with the liquid water up there in the clouds, and then the water rains. This is so severe, that sometimes the rain becomes strongly acidic, with a Ph of 3!
