To Kill a Mockingbird takes place in the fictional town of Maycomb, Alabama, during the Great depresion The protagonist is Scout Finch, an intelligent though unconventional girl who ages from six to nine years old during the course of the novel. She is raised with her brother,Jem by their widowed father, Atticus Finch. He is a prominent lawyer who encourages his children to be empathetic and just. He notably tells them that it is “a sin to kill a mockingbird,” alluding to the fact that the birds are innocent and harmless.

When Tom Robinson, one of the town’s black residents, is falsely accused of raping Mayella Ewell, a white woman, Atticus agrees to defend him despite threats from the community.

Some facts are based in real events that happen to the author. Her father defended two black mens. The racism was a big poblem in the country. It was very valuable to defend a black pleope because if somebody dared to do it , him/her family could set him/her aside. The appareance was very important at that time. When the book was realased in 50 a movement for the civil rights of black people started. It helped to a bigger movement in the 60. The book showed the consequences of the great depresion after the first word war and the difference of social clases and economic problems.
I recommend it because it made me think a lot about discriminiation.
