Emperor Qin Shi Huang ordered the construction of the Great Wall of China on the year 221 B.C. The wall was built and has been maintained for the purpose of protecting Chinese territory. The wall was built using different materials such as rocks, soil, and even sand. The outer layer of the Great Wall was built with stone blocks, and filled with uncut stone and anything else available (like earth and dead workers). They built this wall by hand, using very simple pulley and lever machines. The Great Wall of today was actually built during the Ming dynasty, a period of around 200 years in which over 400,000 people died trying to build it. From 221 B.C. to the 1600's which was technically a period of 1,900 years, a lot changed from the wall. Although this is true, in 221 B.C. the early construction was stopped after 20 years as it had felt complete at the time and was later decided to continued to be worked on.

Spencer Davis

Savannah Novela

-The Saint Basil Cathedral was built from 1555-1561 on orders from Ivan The Terrible to celebrate the capture of Kazan and Astrakhan.
-The foundations were white stone, the churches themselves were made up of red brick, and the frame was made of elaborately tied thin studs.
-It's original purpose was that of an Orthodox church, however now it's mainly used as a museum.
-The church acquired its present-day vivid colors in several stages from the 1680s to 1848. Russian attitude towards color in the 17th century changed in favor of bright colors; iconographic and mural art experienced an explosive growth in the number of available paints, dyes and their combinations.

Jasmin Rossi:

The Palais Garnier, built in 1875 by the architect Charles Garnier, is widely considered to be the world's most famous opera and one of Paris' most esteemed symbols. The Palais Garnier was built for the Paris Opera and was designed during the time of the great Parisian Reconstruction. Today, it is mainly used for ballet by the Paris Opera Ballet Company, one of the world's most prestigious ballet companies. The opera's foundation is made largely from concrete. Modern materials, like metal, (especially guilded metals to create a gold effect), and marble were used for other parts of construction. Many sculptures and two side pavilions are found on its outside. Inside, large mirrors, tall ceilings, and a grand staircase can be seen.

The opera was designed in the Beaux-Arts style, one that is very heavy on symmetry and ornementation.
