Slavery in Ancient Rome by Laura del Alisal

Question: How do you think the Roman Empire profited from slavery?
Think about what we have seen in class and if the developments and expansion of Rome would have been possible without it.

The roman empire profited from slavery because the slaves were working for the city's benefit and they made roads, farmed crops, and made money for slaveowners. Slaves were treated badly but they helped develop the civilization further. They sold crops harvested by slaves and made money. Because most of the population were slaves, the civilization would not have developed further without them.

they profitted by making ther slaves do all their work and then using it to sell or share with others to earn money, And no ancient Rome wouldnt have been able to expand without it because most of the things they did was based around slavery, and so the slavery helped them evolve alot - Neel G

Yesterday when we were looking at the map it showed that they didn't make much profit but yes they did make a profit but didn't make a lot as probably some may have been wasted in transporting the slave & keeping the slaves in top condition so they could make more money. Also, I think that Rome would have expanded with slavery to build structures & all but mainly I think that they would have been being used like how the stock market is. Rome probably sold slaves like you can buy shares of a company so they can be profitable to upgrade & further advance above other civilizations.

Some jobs were like growing crops, teachers and being lawyers. They did all this while the owners still got to keep the money.
