Most teachers have been school employees for more than a decade, and curriculum change is difficult for them. Leadership is task-centered and appears to lack empathy.

The school has had a top-down leadership structure. This leadership structure impacts the general school culture. As the school transitions to a new curriculum based on international standards, a shift to a more democratic, people-centered approach to leadership is required. The current school culture runs the risk of becoming negative if the teachers' fears about embracing the new curriculum continue to be overlooked. In this leadership context, the leadership team must now lead with empathy (Musil, 2016).
