I am from Indonesia thus I am an abroad student who's from a far distance country. At first, I am afraid because of the language barriers, since I know that in the United Kingdom (especially Coventry) there are lots of people across the country. And by that, I need to increase and learn more about my communication skills so that I can survive on living in the Coventry for a year. Personally for me, Coventry city have its own advantage as they called Coventry as the City of Culture. I am pretty sure that because Coventry has a lot of diverse cultures of citizen who live in Coventry. For me who have just arrived to the country, I can see a lot of different people such as local people, immigrants, natives and non-natives, or any other immigrants from Asia, Europe, America, etc.

I have not stay for a long time here, but I can see a lot of differences between my hometown Indonesia and Coventry as my place to study. Back in my undergraduate days, there are no intercultural communication skills at all to be focus with, because almost all of my friends, or my colleagues are from the same background, and still living in the same country even in the same city. In comparison with Coventry, I can see a lot of different cultural background here. By all means, what I need to do is learning again from the beginning about the language, so that I do not having an experience with language barriers.

I received this module called Transnational Professional Development class led by Nigel in my first semester here. From what I notice, this class discussed a lot about developing culture, importantly in the world of work and jobs in the United Kingdom. Looking at how Intercultural Communication can not be separated from the role of language affects our communication between each other. The importance of language and culture in this domain cannot be overstated. One of the most obvious, but certainly not the most fundamental, barriers to intercultural communication is language. People who do not speak the same language or who believe they have a poor grasp of the other's language may find it difficult to communicate with one another. When people don't speak the same language, there's a danger they'll get each other mixed up. However, just because you speak the same language doesn't mean you will understand each other. Even people who speak the same language have different ideas about which words will clash. Despite the fact that citizens speak the same language, they do not always communicate.

For the last, Diamond et al (2011) said that Increasingly, employers are seeking an international dimension to these competencies - essentially the global graduate that can take their place in the global economy. The reason why I chose both topics is because in the future, I want to join an organisation which must have its own level of complexity based on the culture created in the work environment. In the marketplace, the organisational system is one of the important thing to build up a foundation that is going to be strong. I still believe that a system that holds enough can make a strong company also. The system was created from the regularity of the person according to their respective job titles. From what I learned, there are five types of systems that are applied in a company, and there are Functional, Divisional, Matrix, Team Based, and Hierarchical. The reason is to achieve the goal or what you want to achieve is not only the fastest way but the further way. For example, to maintain a culture of mutual respect to another person. 

To achieve common goals, such as divisional division, it takes people who are experts in their fields, and how an individual develops character and skills in the workplace and shapes them to be a professional will be determined by how an individual develops character and skills in the workplace and shapes them to be a professional. In order to advance professionally, we must first recognise our own identity. Asking yourself what we are passionate about can help us improve our performance in a sector that we believe we are capable of. I also feel that any firm or organisation requires people who are extremely knowledgeable in their respective industries. As a result, the work will feel less burdensome since we will perceive it as a new challenge to our competence rather than a burden.

To conclude all my knowings about professional development, I strongly agree that building ourself a network will make us determine. I also believe that networking is the main thing to do. Beside of that, luck can also be created just because people has good networking skills. In organization, networking is one of the main thing because apart from being focused, we also need to focus on ensuring that we have other partners to rely on, to work with, and can inspire each other. We need a good image if we want to build up a good network. For instance, social media can track someone's past, by that we can look through their behaviour and lately in the company or organization, people often review through their social media. Also, social media is a very good platform for someone who wants to apply for work and jobs. Some company also looking for a person who have a big engagement in social media to recruit to their company. In general, leadership is a talent or a managerial function that involves influencing, motivating, or directing others to do things in order to achieve specific objectives. Leadership can also be described as the manner in which a person is led. Each person has a distinct leadership style that is distinct from the others. Everything is determined by the character. A person with a good leadership attitude is not always capable of being a leader. The function of leadership in a business or organisation is critical in directing and coordinating all personnel involved in the firm so that corporate goals can be met quickly. Some people may still be unsure about the terms leadership and leader. There are a lot of people who believe these two items are the same thing. In fact, there is a significant distinction between the two.

Based what I know from the TPD class, there are six types of leadership, and there are Democratic, Affiliative, Commanding, Pacesetting, Visionary, and Coaching. I believed that i have the traits of Affiliative and visionary as my leadership. Because, affiliative builds a strong emotion for the people in a team or groups. While visionary because I can look by everyone's perspective and can see a bigger pictures ahead. In my personal opinion, becoming a leader and having a leadership role needs to be relevant to our daily. Leadership must not just a status, but I saw this quote saying Everybody creates to lead, but before then we need somebody to lead us. A far from being a leader, I need to know more about leadership more. For instance, I want to work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. That way, I need to control my emotion as a leader, also need to hear what my partners suggestions has to say. That way, I will be good enough for a "leader".

For me, the most crucial aspect of leadership is a leader's ability to solve problems. Great leaders, in my opinion, are those who can deliver solutions and inspiration. Because a leader's perspective will be developed and formed as he or she leads. If a leader does not have a positive outlook, it is unlikely that the team's motivation will be able to motivate them to keep moving forward. Starting with how the leader defines the problem, finds the root of the problem, becomes open and honest with circumstances and sentiments, and begins to consider various solutions to the problem, a leader's problem-solving abilities is critical.

Problem solving is the essence of what leaders exist to do. In the shadow of my career, I want to focus myself on working in the aspects of socio-economics in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I have always wanted to interact with a lot of people, as it will grows my relation with any other people.

My closest plan to work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Indonesia because I always wanted to work with the government, especially in the international cooperation section. Because, personally for me it is very interesting to learn more about the cooperation between my country Indonesia with any other country. I want to know more about my country's relation with any other country. That is the reason why in my undergraduate days I took International Relations as my major, and as for my postgraduate program I am currently taking Communication Culture and Media. 

Being a diplomat means that I need to build up my management, emotion, and a good personality so that things can support my career. The ministry was formerly known as the Department of Foreign Affairs (Departemen Luar Negeri Republik Indonesia, abbreviated as "Deplu"), until 2008 when the nomenclature changed with the enactment of the 2008 State Ministry Act (Undang-Undang Nomor 39 Tahun 2008 tentang Kementerian Negara).


Ministry of Foreign Affairs is one of three ministries, along with Ministry of Defense and Ministry Home Affairs, that is explicitly mentioned in the Constitution of Indonesia, hence the president has no authority to dissolve the ministry.


According to Article 8 of the Constitution, in case that both the president and the vice president can no longer serve at the same time, the line of succession temporarily falls to a troika of minister of foreign affairs, minister of home affairs, and minister of defense who would govern concurrently until the succeeding President and Vice President are elected by the People's Consultative Assembly within thirty days of the posts' vacancy.

Since October 2014, Retno Marsudi has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, succeeding Marty Natalegawa.
