This article explains that the Maryland athletic training department made mistakes that could have led to the death during that practice. This incident has caused the University of Maryland to take legal responsibility for the mistakes made by the training staff. According to the Texas board of education law, a school district has the power to stop providing a free public education to a student if they have diverted from the district guidelines.  Also, in order to be part of a district there are different types of scenarios that were explain in which students become eligible to attend a district.  Another interesting fact is if a student is twenty-one or older and has not be in school for three years, cannot be in a class with students who are eighteen years old or younger (Walsh, Maniotis, & Kemerer, 2014). 

Students are also allowed the right to peacefully assemble in public school. Texas Law states that students have the right to freedom of speech or have expressive rights on school campuses (Walsh, Maniotis, & Kemerer, 2014).  This is a form of groups, clubs, or associations that students can create. There are incidents that are not being reported and are causing more legal actions that can affect universities publicly and financially. The reason I chose this topic is because I believe there are not proper actions taken place when reporting these cases. On the other hand, if the misconduct is between faculty and students, then colleges need to have a better process when hiring and presenting information about sexual misconduct inside higher education campuses.

They also explain how having a safe campus for students should be the goal for every college campus. Title IX plays a big part when facing sexual misconduct on college campuses and has full control over the whole ordeal. Many college campuses have created programs that educate students about sexual misconduct, how to report, how to determine what sexual misconduct is. 

There are federal requirements that college campuses have to follow in order to address sexual misconduct. The Clery Act is one law that colleges have to follow, and this law covers campus safety which includes disclosing crime statistics and security policies (NAICU, n.d.). Title IX is also a part of federal law that campuses have to follow when addressing campus sexual misconduct. For example, if a student is sexually assaulted and is reported to the Title IX office, the Title IX office conduct an investigation and go through the process to settle the misconduct.

Many colleges are starting to create programs that educate the student body about sexual misconduct. These programs are very important to have so students and faculty are aware of sexual misconduct. Title IX offices will also have programs or awareness events that promote decreasing sexual misconduct and how to address different situations. This topic is important to educators because some educators may be saying things that may fall under sexual misconduct and not even realize it. Also, working with students and knowing how to report situations properly will not only benefit student confidentiality, but also make campuses more efficient. Being an athletic director, I will face situations where student-athletes may face sexual misconduct allegations. By being aware of it and knowing how to confront situations these they will benefit me in the future career. I would also want my staff and department to be aware, therefore protecting of students athletes is a number one priority and will make our department a safe and respected establishment.
