Reading One for the Murphys was such a good experience. One experience was that my whole class got to Skype with a class in Michigan, and it was so cool. We talked with New Zealand but had to share an iMovie with them because of the time difference. This was definitely one of the best books I have ever read. I love how Lynda named her chapters she is so creative. I will never forget reading this book. In this book it reveals all of Carley's emotions that are locked inside of her. When she first came to the Murphys she wanted to leave as soon as she could and then at the end of the book she didn't want to leave one bit. This book was the best book I ever read and I could notice that Lynda spent a lot of time writing this book. During this reading experience I was writing down notes like a maniac. I hope everyone who reads this book loved it as much as I did. I would definitely read this book over and over again. This experience was better than going to Disney World!

We loved reading One For The Murphys. It was a great experience to share our thoughts and notes to the world via Edmodo for the GRA. We liked the predictability the book offered and the chance to learn new reading strategies. For example, one of the strategies we learned was noticing the changes in the character, which we called contrasts and contradictions. We also enjoyed being able to Skype with a class from Michigan. One of our favorite experiences was when we got to live-stream with the book's author. We enjoyed reading about Carley as a foster kid and how hard it would be to be one. We decided to describe Carley's experience as this:

Carley's experience throughout the book was like somebodies first roller coaster ride. First, you don't want to board the ride like Carley did not want to to live with the Murphys. Then you go up and down on the roller coaster just as Carley had ups and downs in the Murphy household. When you decide to like the ride it is over, like when Carley grew to like the Murphys she had to go. When you finish the ride you do it over again, and Carley will have to do so with her mom. Carley has to apply the love and compassion that she learned from the Murphys to her everyday life. When you aren't riding the 'coaster, you miss it. While Carley is with her mom, she will miss the Murphys.

I think that Carley never had the chose of who she wanted to be with. I think this because she was forceed to go to the Murphys even that she didnt wint to go and the only way she could be with Mrs Murphy is if her mom is to sick to take care of her. Reading this book made me realize that even though a tough time might hapen to you have to keep trying and trying till you are happy and till you love who you have become. I like doing the globule read aloud because you got to see all of the different opinions from kids from all over the U.S.A. and other countries. I think it was fun to meat the author because we got to know all about her and how she got the idea to write the great book One For The Murpys.

Something I realized from this book is that, Carley has a different side to her, other than feeling angry, upset and rude, she learned to become giving, loving,
and learned she didn't always have to be tough. Being at the Murphys, Carley learned to put herself first before others, even her mother. I'm glad Carley had a chance to go to the Murphys because she leaned a lot. I liked this book because it was funny and I was always entertained and excited. I had a great experience reading this book for the Global Read Aloud and sharing my thoughts all over the world.

I think the main idea I got from reading One for the Murphys is that people can change over time if given the chance. For example in the beginning of the book Carley was a very mean person and negative to everyone. By the end of the book the Murphys changed her tremendously and she became a very nice and sensitive person. I loved doing the Global Read Aloud and talking with other students around the world, I liked hearing other student's opinions and what they think about different topics.

I thought it was amazing how Lynda pretty much made the whole moral of the story into a rule that Carly held on to, after she asked Mr. Murphy about his job as a fireman.

"Your own safety is paramount and save yourself first"- Jack Murphy, One For The Murphys

Life lesson in this book was to not to stop even if you are in pain. Carley hated being taken from her mother in the beginning because she was scared but she kept moving forward and didn't stop. This showed me tell that you have been through the pain so why stop? You might get something out of it if you try. She did she got friends such as Toni, time with the family such as helping the Murphys and just having a great time.

I loved the GRA experience as who would think in school we would be talking by computer to other people around the world? This was a fabulous change as we aren't reading from textbooks or talking to our classmates - no offense but that can get repetitive, so I loved it mostly talking to New Zealand students because they were active right along with us.

Carley changed from being tough and not getting involved with other people to being loving and kind. Living with the Murphys really changed her.

I loved commenting in the Global Read Aloud it was so fun to comment and communicate with people from different states and countries. In this book you went on the emotional journey of Carley, a foster child, and watched her change gradually. This book was one of those books that you just couldn't put down. Another reason that this book was amazing is because of the Global Read Aloud. In the Global Read Aloud we got to have intense discussions with our own class, and people around the world!
