They rewrote anything that they disagreed with from books to newspapers to magazines.  In 2017, the government does not use censorship to maintain their power. They brainwashed the children to ensure loyalty to the party. This prevented these young, innocent children from having any strong emotional connection with their parents. Nowaday, children are not expected to do anything of the sort. Kids are just expected to be kids, and enjoy their days of adolescence. However not all countries during this time feel the same. On the other hand, in present-day 2017, the main social classes are generally known as the upper class, middle class, and lower class. Despite the 1984's tampering of past events, the inner party similarly compares to the upper class and parts of the middle class, where they are watched by security cameras in public. While the upper class holds the most power in modern day society, the 1984's inner party holds the most power out of the other two parties. In order to control the citizens, the government in the book, 1984, decided to limit their thought first. As people used words like "ungood" instead of "bad", the ability of thinking is shorten by the simple thought while the complex words from citizens are replaced.
In reality, the government does not limit the word used, the freedom of speech. Using different words will make the thoughts of citizens expand more. As he was leaving, he thought to himself "that wretched woman must lead a life of terror. Another year, two years, and they would be watching her night and day for symptoms of of unorthodoxy" (Orwell 24.) 

This quote explains the daily struggle of parents with child spies living under their roof. They feared their own children because the slightest change in their behavior would result in their own children turning them in to the Party. "The children were systematically turned against their parents and taught to spy on them and report their deviations" (Orwell 77).
When the parents knew their children were taught to spy on them, they will not do anything that against the government, because their children were stay with them most of time, The report from their children led them to be caught by thought police.
"Your name was removed from the registers, every record of everything you had ever done was wiped out, your one-time existence was denied and then forgotten" (11).
Citizens were be scared by the vaporization from the government.
