  • Which of the terms above do you think this is an example of? Explain... Discrimination, Racism, Prejudice - they wouldn't give the man a house based on his race 
  • Do you believe you have ever stereotyped someone (or treated them differently) by his or her accent or speech pattern? If so, how?  No
  • Is judging someone based on his or her accent or speech pattern different from judging that person based on his or her appearance?  No it's not 
  • Can you think of examples of this that you have seen or experienced? One of my black friends was discriminated in a store and accused of shoplifting

    • Explicit Racism - overt, intentional, practiced by individuals and institutions prejudice against racially defined groups - KKK, using a slur, publicly/conciously supporting racism 

    Implicit Racism - Unconcious bias when making judgments about people/ethnic groups - an automatic negative reaction of a different race/ethnicity - unconcious fear/mistreatment and judgment of nonwhite groups, White Savior Complex, Misjudging groups

    The white people didn't get yelled at but were offered help, while the black guy immediately got yelled at
