         <description><![CDATA[<div>Athena- She guides him throughout his journey. In all the hard places he finds himself in, she's always there to help him. "Athena granted what I prayed for." (Homer 264)<br><br>Circe- She tells Odysseus the course he should take, and warns him of the danger. She also tells him to stay closer to Scylla instead of Charybdis. "Odysseus returns to Circe’s island. The goddess reveals his course to him and gives advice on how to avoid the dangers he will face" (Homer)<br><br>Tiresias- He tells Odysseus his future and the harsh journey he will go on. He tells him not to touch the sun gods cattle. "Great captain,<br>a fair wind and the honey lights of home are all you seek. But anguish lies ahead" (Homer 632-634)&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Battle of Cicones- Athena convinced Odysseus to fight in the Trojan war. He uses his Intelligence to defeat the Trojans. "I stormed that place and killed the men who fought." (Homer 43)<br><br>Lotus-Eater-&nbsp; Odysseus and his man end up on the island of the lotus eater. 3 of his men ate the flower, so Odysseus used his wisdom and tied them to the ship. "I drove them, all three wailing, to the ships, tied them down under their rowing benches". (Homer 101-102)<br><br>Cyclops- Odysseus and his men go in the cyclops cave and he traps them in. Odysseus then prays to Athena, and he uses his wisdom to come up with the plan to blind him. "thrust and grind that spike in Cyclops’ eye". (Homer&nbsp; 280-281)<br><br>Island of Aeolia- Aeolus gives Odysseus a sack containing all the winds except the west one. He says not to open it, but on the way home they do and it causes a big storm sending them right back. "Aeolus, king of the winds, sends Odysseus on his way with a gift: a sack containing all the winds except the favorable west wind." (Homer)<br><br>Laestrygonians- Odysseus finds himself in the land of the cannibals, the Laestrygonians. They violate hospitality and destroy all his ships besides the one he's on. "They sail for seven days and arrive in the land of the Laestrygonians, a race of cannibals." (Homer)<br><br>Defeat of Circe- Eventually they land on Aeaea, and Circe transforms hal his men into swine. Hermes had given Odysseus a herb to protect him, so he demanded she undo the transformation. "Odysseus and his reduced crew escape and reach Aeaea, the island ruled by the sorceress-goddess Circe. She transforms half of the men into swine." (Homer)<br><br>Resisting the Sirens- As they near the sirens, Odysseus has his men tie him to the mast as advised by Circe so he can listen to their song. He puts beeswax in their ears so they're safe. "you are to tie me up, tight as a splint, erect along the mast, lashed to the mast, and if I shout and beg to be untied,<br>take more turns of the rope to muffle me." (Homer 696-698)<br><br>Passing Scylla and Charybdis- When Odysseus' men saw the 2 dangers they hid, but he gave them a pep talk. they steered closer to Scylla, and the monster ate 7 of his men. "Then Scylla made her strike, whisking six of my best men from the ship." (Homer 809-810)<br><br>Escaping Calypso- Calypso detains Odysseus in her cave to love him. "I have been detained long by Calypso" (Homer 29-30)<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

(Homer 1093)<br><br>Eumaeus- Athena directs Odysseus to stay at Eumaeus'&nbsp; home when he arrives on Ithaca. "Athena disguises Odysseus as a beggar and directs him to the hut of Eumaeus, his old and faithful swineherd." (Homer)</div>]]></description>
