My mom and dad gave it to me as a gift on August 22, 2002. I would say this story is influential to me because it brings back a lot of memories. Memories that include my mom reading it to me before bedtime, to reading it myself when I was learning how to read. This is one of the few books I actually decided to read. In the story, the young girl goes through many obstacles in her lifetime. One particular obstacle she has to deal with is hr father. Her father is an alcoholic, who tries to get sober, but never could. The one story I remember the most is when Amelia was given a chores list and on it was to make a sponge cake, well...she actually put dish sponges in the cake. When I read I usually get distracted easily and will find myself reading the same page over and over again. The only time I found myself reading was if I was being tested, if the story was very interesting, or if I related to the story on a personal level.
