What did Realism emerge from?

Realism emerge from rejecting the ideas of Romanticism. Realism is the observation of the modern world. Another that helped lead to Realism was August Comte, Charles Darwin, and Karl Max. August Comte created Positivism which was for knowing the cause and effect of nature. Charles Darwin is the idea of that those who are stronger could survive, but those who are weaker can't. While, Karl Max is about political philosophy against the urban and wealth should be equal. So then it helped opened up theatre that was different from before. It lead the way for realism with the way how the stage was put, the seats were equal, and allowed no applause and curtain calls.

Huckleberry Finn was a boy who had a alcoholic father and a friem Tom Sawyer who was too good for him, and found a stash of gold. He was later adopted by Widow Douglas, a woman who lives with her sisters, and was happy for his new life. Huckleberry thought his life would went well, until his alcoholic father reappeared asking him for money. Then, they were fighting for his custody in court and he had to live with his father and adoptive parent, and his father kept harassing him. Huckleberry was able to escape by faking his death and was hiding in an island, while the town people were searching for him. He met Jim, and both were escaping going to many places.

The theme was about the conflict of civilization and natural life. Huckleberry is about the natural life through his freedom, unruly ways, and was determined to escape civilization. He was someone who doesn't follow the rules or discipline and got a strong will separating from things that are "sivilize". Widow was forcing him to try new things, give up smoking, and learn the bible. Besides civilization and natural life, there are themes like honor, food, mockery of religion, superstition, slavery, money, and Mississippi River. Tom and Huckleberry became thieves in order to save Jim, and that was the concept of honor. While food was a prominent because Huckleberry often fought the pigs for food and eat out of the barrel. Twain was focusing hardly on the mockery of religion by stating that hell sounds more fun than heaven. There were superstition for both Huckleberry and Jim, like when Huckleberry spilled salt his father reappeared and when Huckleberry touches snakeskin Jim be bitten. There was also slavery because Twain was an anti-slavery, and used Jim to show the lives of slaves.

Huckleberry Literary Devices

Huckleberry Finn is in first person describing his personality, personal point of view, and youth. The story is about Huckleberry and how we rely on him to understand the story. He is honest and can be taking for word. I think the author's purpose was to show the lives of those before the civil war through the story of Huckleberry, like slavery and how there are some people in America who would be kind to run away slaves and save them from being sold because it was not abolish until later on. Huckleberry can symbol for America about those who are pioneer of independent and wasn't about people telling him what to do. There are dialect that was being used in Huckleberry Finn story, especially JIm who had a lot of dialogue unsuitable wording structures. Also, using the dialect is a great way to show the time when the book took place and how the people were talking.
