Scientific American reading app

The design of this app takes environmental factors into account. Not only can I read online with this app, but I can also download the articles to my phone to read offline. This feature comes in handy since my phone often loses internet connection on the subway. With the ability to download articles, I can read wherever I am without worrying about losing my internet connection.

One limitation of the app I think is that it's not community-based. There is no room for readers to provide comments and share views with each other. I think it would be nice if there are some sort of discussion boards or comment areas in the app.

Zones is a timezone tracking app that allows you to add different locations and see the time across different timezones clearly. It's particularly useful for me due to my work clients' different geographical locations. It's a very handy tool because of its clean and friendly interface, the function for you to enter a specific time in your timezone and see the time differences reflected in the other timezones, and also contains many specific locations that you can select. The design scale and context of use are very well-considered.

I like that the NYT app has a specific mobile-design, rather than copying their desktop content. I also like that big topics will have their own sub-sections, such as COVID or the 2020 election. However, switching between sections could be more intuitive and easier and I wish the homepage had a continuous scroll, rather than a hard stop. I think you have to know what sections you like, before starting to use the app. It does not make discovery very easy.

Rover is a pet-sitting app for both pet owners and pet-sitters. As a dog owner, I found it convenient to use Rover because it has a great data management system. If you have multiple pets, you are able to input and store the data of each of the pets so that if you ever need pet-sitting for one or more of your pets, you can simply assess the app and have everything ready for you at once. The design scale is also great on this app. Even though there is a lot of information, the app neatly organizes the content so that it does not overwhelm the user.

You can scroll if you're looking for random information, or you can use the search box or 'Popular' tab to find more focused information. I like that Reddit can be informative, but also fun (depending on what the user is looking for). One of the more annoying aspects of the app is that the most popular comment for a new post usually spawns a lot of sub-comments, which can take a long time to scroll through in order to get to the next main comment.

When you request a ride, you can track where your car is driving and how long will it take to get to your place in realtime. I believe it is nicely aligned with the incentive principle.

Go to the Kitchen is a recipe app that allows users to share and learn recipe/cooking step by step with photos/texts/videos. It is very useful for me as it can provide many different ideas to cook different delicious food. In addition, as most of the recipes are shared by common people, they are very handy.
In terms of feature designs, the app well emphasized users' needs by providing several ways to categorize food. For example, users can not only search any cuisine but also look for a cuisine based on dishes' types, time to cook, scene of eating and etc. Besides, users can also purchase food ingredients here according to the recipe.

Quizlet allows for users to access flashcards and study terms on the go. I use the mobile version of the app to study when I cannot access a computer. The functions (and games) on the mobile version are slightly different than the desktop version. This allows for the interface to be less crowded. The app utilizes gestures like swiping and tapping to flip flashcards, and it provides visual representation of how much you have learned.
