I thought that the use of the google site with the links embedded that took the students to the assignment on google classroom to be very effective. This way students will be able to access the material very easily which takes the stress away from the teacher and student. One suggestion I have is to make the google site more user friendly, perhaps with the use of the sidebar in to find the material on the google website easier. One question I have is how the teacher is going to use the triangulation approach to assessment with the assignments she has created for the class.

- Taylor

There were many great features of this unit. The unit was well planned and organized in sequential steps each day to help the students learn, practise, get feedback and apply the learning outcomes. A suggestion for further development would be to add 'a strategy for improvement' to the peer assessment. Students often get stuck on how how to strengthen an identified weakness. Having students go beyond identifying a weakness to suggesting strategies for improvement helps both the peer assessor as well as the peer being assessed. A question I have is does the teacher build in time to go through the rubric with the students so that they know what skills and knowledge they have to demonstrate as well as provide examples of the nuances in performance between a level 3 and a level 4 performance?

I find that there are lot od good features in this sample such as the organisation , the ease of accessibility and the variety of the activities presented all over the unit. The flexibility in the culmunating task by allowing the students to use various ways to present their learning based on their ability and their learning styles.Further more, the learning goals and the success criteria are obvious at the begining of each activity. A suggestion for further improvement is a formative assessment before the culmunating task so they can improve their point of weakness , to better understand the rubric and how to make an autoevaluation. A question I need to ask do the students have a well understanding of the use of the rubric to make a peer assessment and what are the expectations for this assignment?
Gehane

I like the use of the google site with links to the google classroom for assessments. The google site is a lot more engaging and keeps things in one spot for the students. I did find the organization of the days a little confusing, but that could just be me. I thought the inclusion of a peer assessment for the culminating was a great idea! In future, I would probably recommend giving the students one or two more opportunities to assess their peers on smaller assignments or tasks. Thanks to this sample I'll be exploring Flipgrid and screencastomatic! I like the idea of posting a short lecture that students can refer to after a lesson for a quick recap if necessary.

The course is logically organized. The website design seems intuitive with students starting with the weeks objectives and outcomes explained and evaluated. There are a range of formative activities that students work through, which make use of different content sharing platforms. Students are reminded and encouraged to self and peer assess often to evaluate their understanding.

Many of the activities and assessments seem to be independent tasks. There are moments where students could collaborate via their digital artifacts and assessment feedback. I didn’t pick out opportunities for face-to-face collaboration.

The days of the week seem well resourced with asynchronous work. Are there opportunities for synchronous learning? The teacher mentioned a google meet - how is that delivered to be a part of the program?

- anna
There was a lot of variation in this unit. It was authentic and engaging with lots of great current videos and activities. Using EDpuzzle with both her own video and an established one was a great idea. Having the success criteria clearly shown, allows both the teacher and students to periodically check in to ensure they are on track. I did find it a bit confusing to follow and she was having to scroll a lot to find activities. Maybe there is an easier way to create organizational tabs on the side. She has a wide range of assessments including peer and self.
How did the students find this unit, what was their feedback?

I was impressed with the variety of assignments and resources included in the google site. She used different types of technology for students and had everything linked up to her Google classroom as well, which makes it effective as a learning tool for the students.

A couple of suggestions I would make are concerning organization and presentation of material. A few times she mentioned not knowing where she put an assignment or resource. Acknowledging that she had just made the Google site and may have edited it a few times, this does highlight that resources need to be really well organized, easy to use and intuitive for the students. A menu at the top or side of the site as well as a Contents Type page listing all of the components for each unit/week/lesson would help everyone to navigate the site.

Also, students are very sophisticated consumers of professional looking websites and social media. I would suggest improving the aesthetics of the site to make the content more visually enticing for the students. Bigger clearer font, use of coloured backgrounds, larger windows, alignment of text and windows etc would help to highlight and organize the content. This doesn't have anything to do with better content but I believe that measures which make content easier and more interesting to look at are always good to include.

One question I would ask is are there any resources to help students figure out the technology if they haven't used it yet?
