An immigrant is a person who moves from

one country to another. Lots of immigrants came from Cuba.

Over 90 thousand immigrants come each year. Some of the big

Cuban immigrants are from Jamaica, Haiti, and Dominican

Republic. Immigrants have different cultures.

He wanted to end there but he didn't. It was freezing in 1894 and 1895 the citrus crops were dying. He extended it to Florida's East Coast.

Key West was the biggest community in Florida and it was an important part.

a Cape is a point that sticks into the ocean. Cape Canaveral had been named after John F. Kennedy.

 He launched the first people to land on the moon. The Space Program was a big hit for tourist.

The Space Program is also called NASA. On July 24, 1950, the first space shuttle launched. 

A satellite is an object the orbits another object.

NASA is a space station in Florida. It brings

in a lot of tourist. NASA launched their first

space shuttle in Florida. NASA  launched over

100 space shuttles. NASA is looking for new

ways of getting people into space.

Cape Canaveral is where rockets are launched. If they failed they

landed in the ocean safely. Brevard county, where Cape Canaveral is

located, population has doubled since Cape Canaveral was created.

It is a tourist attraction. It has created many tourist contraction.

Disney is a huge tourist attraction. In 1965, Walt Disney bought

43 acres of farmland. He and his company spent years planning

the park. Today it is over 30,000 acres big. 17 million people

come a year!! It is one of the biggest attractions in the world.

Tourism is all around Florida. Before 1950s, many people have traveled to Florida by railroad.

People come to Florida cause of the weather and tourist attractions. There are attractions like Walt Disney World,

 Daytona 500, Everglades, and the Space Program.

The people who come here come for attractions and the people could come here for the worm weather cause they could be from up north.

 It is cold up north so they want to be warm. All different people come to Florida for what Florida has here.

Voting is only for adults, kids can not vote. They can vote in school for what movie they like best or game.

 There not allowed to vote for the president of the United States.

Adults can vote for the president though. Voting is for a lot of different things like for voting for a president or law.

France is in Florida's history. The French built Fort Caroline.

Fort Caroline was took over by the Spanish lead by Menéndez de

Aviles. The French started to colonize in1565. Jean Ribault landed on a

small island In the Saint John's river.

The Great Depression was a sad time

in America. It happened when the stock market crashed.

Many businesses failed. People were unable to repay their loans.

We came out of the great depression when President Roosevelt may the new

deal It prevented the stock market from getting to low.

Andrew Jackson was a general. The United States chose Andrew Jackson as their general.

Jackson and his troops had sneaked into Pensacola and forced the Spanish to give up.

Jackson attacked a second time even though he ordered to. Jackson worked hard to get

Florida to become one one of the states of the U.S.

in America. It also has the oldest school house. Fort Pickens is also a historical site. It is where a battle was fought in the Civil War. You can walk around and see and see the Confederates cannon balls in thewalls

A land boom is a sudden increase for the  price of land.

Florida had a big land boom. Soon  the land boom

became part of The Great Depression. Everyone lost

money. It was a sad time.

Ybor City is a little community in Tampa.

Vincent Martinez started the community. He moved here from

Cuba to sell cigars. He made his workers happy by giving them a house and money

The workers became loyal and stayed to work. Everybody worked well together.

People Lectors read to the workers. This was their education.

War was very bad and gruesome. A lot of people died. War went on

at Europe in 1914, that was just one war called World War 1. The U.S wasn't involved.

Then German ships attacked U.S ships. They were carrying supplies to German's enemies. U.S joined

Great Britain to attack Germans'. By November 1918, Germans had lost the war. It wasn't over though cause World War 2 was on it's way.

Jacob Summerlin married Frances Zipper.

Jacob Summerlin is a famous rancher. Jacob and Frances moved to Centreal Florida with

50 cows. Jacob gave food to the South during the war. Jacob and Frances helped

make Orlando a great city. Jacob and Frances will always be remembered

Orlando is a city in central Florida. When a man named

Jacob Summerlin moved his family to the town now

known as Orlando it had only 80 people.The town

population soon grew to 3000 people.

Key West is by the Everglades. It is a couple

islands. There are three different types of

habitats in the Keys. There are about 23

reefs in the Keys. It is a big tourist attraction.

Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights leader. He lead many boycotts. One of the boycotts he lead was the bus boycott. He had visited St. Augustine to end slavery. He is remembered each year on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Much of Florida is a peninsula. It is between the Gulf of

Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean and the Straits of Florida. A

peninsula is land that has three sides surrounded by

water. Florida is a great example of a peninsula. Florida

has many peninsulas inside it's border, such as the Saint

Johns River.

Quartz is a mineral found in the earths crust.

Quartz crystals is produced by weathering.

Much of the sand found in Florida is made up

of quartz crystals. The quartz sand found on

Clearwater beach is white and fine grained.

The Xanthopastis moth is a native to the Everglades.

The Everglades are a natural region of tropical

wetlands found in southern Florida. The

Xanthopastis moth is also known as the Spanish

moth. The Xanthopastis moth can't be mistaken for

any other moth in Florida. They are very colorful.
