The Jungle was written by Upton Sinclair. The book focuses on the tragic events of a Lithuanian immigrant family. This family moved to America to get the opportunity they believed the U.S. would provide, but they ended up living a life of extreme poverty and bad conditions. The book calls out the horrible and unsanitary working conditions of the meat packing industry in Chicago. This book later sparked the creation of the 1906 Meat Inspection Act.
