I learned about the power of positivity from him. He went out of his way for his students and had such a passion for astronomy and teaching. He made me smile everyday. He was an awesome teacher and family man. He loved his family unconditionally and talked about them often. We learned later in our friendship that we were close neighbors. He never failed to put a smile on my face and made science fun and exciting. His thoughts of the day and his well known quote "time is winding downing like an unpugged fan" still stays with me today. Woodgrove lost one of the most down to earth teacher's I've ever had and he will be missed by many. Rest in peace.

I am sure he will be greatly missed at Woodgrove. Here is a picture of him and some students (along with Mr. Shipp) who gave me a wonderful tour of the planetarium!

Mr. McMillen was an amazing man who happened to be a teacher!! His students, at least those I know including my daughter, viewed as a friend and admired him as a person! My daughter Cece Chavez is devestated by his passing and will miss him dearly. He was one of the few teachers she felt a connection too because of his amazing personality and his dedication to his students. His family will be in our thoughts and prayers! May God Bless his family as they travel down this very difficult road! May he Rest In Peace!!! The Chavez Clan

His passion for Astronomy and teaching it was only matched by his passion for his students, their love for learning and their successes. I was so fortunate to not only be his daughter, but to also have him as a teacher in 9th grade. I am now a teacher and he truly inspires me. I hope I can be half the teacher he has been. He strived to be the best in all he did and his enthusiasm shone through. Hands down, second to none. He strived to help others in all he did, reflective in being a past master Mason. I miss you so very much and I can't believe you are gone. Reading all of these tributes brings tears of joy to my eyes. I hope you are exploring all the beautiful universe has to offer, shining brightly above, in peace, and shining down. I will try to find you each night with my telescope. I love you, daddy.

Mr. McMillen made an enormous impact in my life and the way I carry my life out each every day. He would always greet me with a smile when I walked into his classroom. What really made an impact in me, was his life lessons. He would always say that teaching Earth Science wasn't as important as the lessons you learn in life. His words of the day helped inspire me throughout my day as well as become a better person in entirely. Lessons about friends and how you need to have a good attitude made a difference. Mr. McMillen was the best teacher I have ever had. I will never forget Mr. McMillen and the lessons he has taught me. My life won't be the same. You will be deeply missed.

Forever Onward,
Nicholas Matyas

There are only a few opportunities in life to truly build a friendship. I am thankful I had the opportunity with Bob. He was a great person who loved Woodgrove and everything about it. Astronomy was his passion and he gave me and my son a lovely book to share. Each night we search for Pegasus in the sky as that is my fathers constellation. Bob, I am sure there is one especially for you.

Bob was usually the first person I saw when I arrived at school. We'd say good morning to one another. Minutes later, the copier would start causing its usual problems and Bob and I would combat the machine together. He was so friendly, and so kind, and he made Woodgrove a very welcoming place for me. I'll miss him.

My father was a very dedicated man to everyone and everything that he committed his life to. He is sorely missed by all that knew him. He always had a way of impacting any person he would meet which made him very special. I never had the opportunity to have him as a teacher but I did get to observe him with all different ages of students teaching....it was truly something wonderful to see how he had every student engaged and interested in what he was teaching that day. That is an inspirational individual that can do that and he still inspires me everyday.

Mr. McMillan befriended me at Woodgrove my first week when we sat together for a staff development activity, and just about every day over the last five years, we shared a friendly exchange, usually outside of his classroom or in the English workroom where we each reheated our tea. One of my favorite memories with Bob is the day we swapped classes – a challenge presented to us in a faculty meeting. Bob asked me to be his partner, and though I was hesitant, he was so excited about the idea that I had to say yes. I appreciate Bob McMillan’s outgoing nature and his willingness to try something new, and I hope to emulate these same traits.

Mr. McMillan was and still is one of the most understanding, kind, loving and passionate men I have ever met. He cared about every student that walked through his door, and believed in them more than anyone could imagine. Knowing that I will never hear him speak about the vast universe again breaks my heart. No one here at Woodgrove can replace him, and whoever takes over his classes has big shoes to fill.
Thank you, Mr. McMillan. For showing me compassion, love, excitement. For teaching me about the stars. For letting me vent to you on my worst days. For everything you have ever done for me. I will miss you more than you will ever know, old friend.
