The artist engages with figure and ground by using shadows to depict dimension and also with overlapping shapes to show which are in the foreground and which are in the background.

Figure and ground.

The ground was painted with intention to highlight the figures. The value of certain parts of the ground helps to emphasize the value of the figures.

They use asymmetrical balance by varying height of the objects on the sides taller than the center, but still off center. together shaping the items on the tabletop as a whole

He takes some objects and has them in front of the others to create different depths of the photo. He also gives dimension to the different objects.

The way the objects are clumped together against the white wall behind them helps us visualize two different things to focus on. Since the objects are clumped together the white back wall is able to create its own shape almost. (Figure and Ground)

The artist engages with Asymmetrical Balance by using a variety of styles of vases/bottles. They each vary is size and shape to create a lack of symmetry which leads the eye across the entire work.

Visual Hierarchy-although the items are relatively the same size. We see visual hierarchy with the color choice and how our eyes are guided around the composition using those choices.

The artist engages figure and ground by having the subject and the ground take up the same amount of space in the field, being 50-50. The Gestalt principle is shown as the whole picture uses both figure and ground to tell a story. Asymmetrical Balance is used because there is a lone tall object on the left compared to many tall objects on the right.

The use of asymmetrical balance guides the eye from one side of the field to another. Although the weight is not evenly distributed, because of asymmetrical balance it feels even. This asymmetry also creates movement.
