It's rusted metal and corroded wood created an old and another life time sort of atmosphere. 

In this piece I decided on using collage. I cut out different shapes from a magazine and arranged them in place. Once I had painted them I then cut them out and glued them on top of each other. I done this as a way of thinking what the machine would look like dismantled and parts layered in different angles. I then painted the background using black acrylic to accentuate the mechanical feeling of the shapes in the middle. In particular the work of Kurt Schwitters.  I used a combination of paper stained by a tea bag, painted sections of paper, paper cut from an article that was discussing epilepsy, and oil pastels. I felt that the strongest point in this was the circles on the biphasic stimulator because it attracts our eyes to the centre of the machine. Georges has used an approach called decalcomania ( A form of print making that involves painting on a sheet of paper then placing clean paper on top of it then firmly pressing it together) that I feel is relevant  at enhancing the texture I am trying to achieve and the over all appearance of what I am trying to create.

I chose to apply oil pastels on top of the print as a way to add a contrasting texture. I added them onto the page and shaped them to look like a certain part of the machine. I done this as a means to create something that was more 3D and provide a texture that you could touch.
