I enjoyed today's PDN. I will strive to give more one or one feedback, but I love the idea of showing student's work and the class of students helping with this feedback. My classes are very lighthearted, and this feedback would be genuine. I want inspire and develop in every way possible. These PDN make one think outside the box or the square we put ourself and our students.

I have used Quizizz a good bit in my classroom this year, and I believe it's a great formative assessment tool. I also liked the index card strategy that the teacher in the video used. The yes/no action that she took with her students showed them that it was okay to make a mistake, and that she was pleased with the fact that they often got some of the problem correct.

I will definitely be using Quizizz for my remediation in tutorial. I love that other quizzes are already made so that I don't have to worry about trying to create one. I can choose one that covers the unit they are learning in class and let them practice. I can also use it as pre/post data for IEP goals and data collection for my data binder.

I plan to utilize a version of "My Favorite Wrong" . I think it will be especially useful re. life skills in the sped classroom. I really like the way that the model puts a positive spin on mistakes, and how it provides students anonymity; no one student is made to feel awkward if his/her mistake is chosen as the example.

I love the idea of "My Favorite Wrong." I kind of already use this strategy in a way. I often use Nearpod in my classroom, and the cool thing about Nearpod is you can insert slides, questions, polls, and quizzes all into one lesson. I created a lesson on subject pronouns in Spanish, entered a few slides for notes, then I gave them several practice questions where they submit their answer from their device, and it appears on my screen. The coolest feature is that I can hide student names, and then choose a few "no" answers to highlight and discuss like the teacher did in the video. In today's lesson, I'm also using the same concept as the butterfly video. Several of my kids are struggling with the pronouns we're learning, so I'm handing back their assignments, going over the topic again (addressing the most commonly made mistakes), and letting them have another chance to show what they know.

I always encourage mistakes. I had a teacher once tell me "the sooner you make your first 5000 mistakes the sooner you know what not to do." I encourage my students to make (but learn from) mistakes.

Honestly, I get so caught up in my kids getting the format right because I think that it will make it easier for them, when sometimes it just confuses them. So I forget to encourage different avenues to get the same result. I do encourage mistakes within the process because I don't want them to get so stuck on perfection. In Oral Comm, mistakes are welcome and we know that mistakes make you seem more human. I would love to use a process much like what was used with the butterfly, getting peer feedback more often.

I enjoyed the PDN. It is always refreshing to get ideas from other teachers. We also need to be reeled back in sometimes because our every day routine can become a little relaxed. It is important to be reminded that formative assessment drives instruction. If we do not know what they do not know then how can we even begin to scaffold instruction.

I have really enjoyed using quizizz! The students really enjoy it, as well! I think that understanding how to use formative assessment to drive instruction is so important! I think the focus on celebrating wrong answers has made students in my classes more willing to share their answers. Fostering a classroom environment that is safe is key to students feeling comfortable making mistakes!
