Two Steps Back." For this piece I took elements of my voice and incorporated those timbres into a combination with a digital drum set. I emulated a drum set with my own mouth-- opposed to using a table. This technique is similar to beatboxing. From the samples I input their midi tracks so that I could play the keyboard as if I was playing a real set. The kick, snare, ride, and hi-hat are all made from my natural voice. In order of appearance, I used: "Who Are You?" The Who [1978], "Sinnerman" Nina Simone [1962], Allen Ginsberg reading his poem America [1956], "Won't Get Fooled Again" The Who [1971], "Don't Change Your Love" Five Stairsteps [1968], and "Son of a Preacher Man" Aretha Franklin [1968].
