Saudi Arabia is an Absolute Monarchy meaning that their King is in charge of the government and state and has UNLIMITED power to use. However Saudi Arabia is also an Islamic theocracy so they base their laws after their religion. For example in Saudi Arabia if you try change your religion from anything expect Islam you are punished by death. Although they are an Absolute Monarchy they also have what is called a Basic Law. The Basic Law to many other countries is considered a constitution but in Saudi Arabia they say it is not specific enough to be officially followed.

Women must get permission from their male guardian in order to perform major tasks. Some of these tasks include marriage, divorce, travel, education, and employment. 17% of the work force is females and they often have sections just for women to work. These ways of treating women were forced upon because the government believed that women did not contribute to the war nor contribute to the tax system. The government also believed that women had a tendency to be emotional so therefore they should't be able to do certain things.

Theocracy vs. Democracy

Where as Saudi Arabia is a Theocracy there are also other countries called a Democracy. In a Democracy the citizens vote on a group of representatives that they think will best represent/run their country. This means that the people of a democratic country like Denmark have more freedom in their speech and their actions. This is different compared to a Theocracy because in a Theocracy people are forced to follow strict laws based on their religion. In Saudi Arabia they are forced to follow rules all based on the Islamic religion and they have little right to what they can freely do

In Saudi Arabia the leaders are chosen through generations of the Saud family. This term is also known as Hereditary monarchy. However the citizens of Saudi Arabia are able to elect other forms of government. In 2005 men voted on the municipal council people. The next election set to take place in 2009 was postponed to consider letting women vote. As other elections went by the king finally granted women the right to vote in 2015.
