DH Lawrence: Lawrence's writing explores issues such as sexuality, emotional health, vitality, spontaneity, and instinct. It was said that his grasp on sexuality cast his as a pioneer of "liberation". His novels are difficult because their realism is underlain by obsessive personal metaphors, by elements of mythology, and by his attempt to express what is normally wordless because it exists below consciousness.
Graham Greene: He was a shy and sensitive kid who would rather read than play sports. It is said that the reoccurring themes of treachery and betrayal stemmed from his childhood.
