One group wanted to save the trees which were the protestors while the other group wanted the trees to be cut down which was the work crew. For example, it states, " Although they were poor, and had little power in Brazil's unjust society, he rubber tappers had found a way to fight for their forest life." This means that the first group were the protesters that wanted to save the rainforest. They wanted to save their forest life. The protesters didn't want the trees to be cut down. Also, it states, "A work crew had been ordered to clear the rain forest." This means that the second group was the work crew who was paid to cut down the forest.  The two groups didn't agree with each other so they had a conflict. The protestors didn't want the trees to be cut down while the work crew had to cut the trees down because they were paid to. That was the conflict they had.
