Prior to this module, I was able to get a glimpse of the beauty in Painting. The quote "A picture can paint a thousand words" is true even for a with a paint and canvas. For some people painting is simply a material and another medium to communicate their thoughts and feelings. Painting was simply to give out beauty within those who will see, maybe even change their perspective on things. I realised that painting, although is only caught a glimpse on from time to time, takes a lot of process and time to create. A lot of thinking as to what will be on, what will be focused, and what will enhance what. Being able to go to different museum and knowing a few painters in my life made me see the beauty in painting. Not only that, but being able to paint myself gave me a glance as to the behind the scenes of a painting and the perspective of the painter.

What I Learned...

A Painting was defined as a plane surface covered with colors arranged in a certain order (Denis, n.d.). In the book of Etienne Gilson, he note that painting and poetry are here treated jointly as two arts which, though using different means of expression, have the same end in view. For me, I would have indicated that the similarities are that they are both forms of art, its just that one is of them is written and the other is visual. As is the case with some paintings, some poems should be read from close up, whereas others are best appreciated from afar; some court the shade, others endure scrutiny in full light unfearful of the demands of the most penetrating criticism (Gilson, 1966).

Painting is silent poetry, and poetry is painting that speaks

- Plutarch

In this module, we learned about the form and system of painting, as the materials and techniques in painting. Some of the materials that was highlighted was oil, watercolors, acrylic, mixed, and more. In line with this, we also learned about the subject of the painting, which are the landscape, portraits, genre, history, religion, and more. It was said that each aspect of the painting, gives the entirety its meaning. Without one of those aspects, the painting would lack a certain feature. For instance, a shadow in a painting is what gives an emphasis on the subject. It gives drama to the photo and it gives an overall sense.

What I Want to Learn

I always wanted to learn why some painting are extremely expansive than those of other. Would it be because of who painted it, what he painted, or how he painted? At first, if you have no interest in painting at all, you would not see the little details that comes with it. I want to learn more on how these painting have truly evolved and what significance of the old paintings had on todays artworks. Is there any relevance or relation between them.

i saw an article that states that at makes us more human; it helps us to communicate in a different, personal language. This is a great benefit for all people and mainly for those who have conditions with a lack of communication or problems expressing themselves such as (Blanco, 2013). I want to learn how to paint in general, as relatively I am a shy person, so I want to be able to illustrate what is on my mind. Lastly, I want to learn how culture is evident in the paintings, how it evolved and how it stayed true to its traditions.
