American voting requirements after ratification of the U.S. Constitution (1789)

in this time the voting requirements were by state. Every state was creating their own requirements. This caused inequality of opportunities. This requirements excluded women, people of color and other individuals that were not American white man that owned property. This changed over time allowing white men without property to vote. This initiated all the battles for the movements like the women's movements act and the Voting Right act.

In this era a lot of advancements were made. In this era the expansion of voting rights for white men that had no property expanded. A lot of states decided to have direct election which expanded the popularity of popular sovereignty.

The Indian Citizenship Act of 1924 gave U.S. citizenship to all Native Americans born in the territorial limits of the United States. Before this act, many Native Americans were not considered citizens, even though being born in the country. The law aimed to recognize Native Americans' contributions, because of their military service during World War I.But,it did not guarantee full voting rights, as state laws continued to set laws that excluded Native Americans from participating in elections for many years.

Voting Right Act of 1965 was ratified on August 6, 1965

Even if Black people had the right to vote, they faced continuous threats and obstacles. This amendment got rid of these problems, finally allowing Black people to vote.
