Many girls were very bored in this time period so they faked having symptoms that seemed like they were being hurt by the accused women. Jon Winthrop, the individual behind the "City Upon A Hill" idea, had developed it to set an example for other Christians worldwide. Puritans founded colleges which were: Harvard, Princeton, and others. These colleges taught young men the words of God and ministers, they taught that "grace" was a free gift of salvation and that there is a great deal of depravity, the belief that at birth everyone is a sinner.
