Rose connects her past trauma to her present by comments she “never expected to find Bing” much like she believes now she “will never find a way to save [her] marriage” (Tan 139). This proves to be a good example of the struggle to overcome past trauma as we see how Rose uses her past fears and traumas to make assumptions about her present. Her inability to move past the pain and loss in her past due to the trauma it brought causes her to feel the same pain now and have no hope because of how it ended last time with her brother.
