      <description>The first female to graduate from her graduating cohort of Iran’s University of Tehran with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Sunny Zia subsequently relocated to the United States, where she attended the University of California, Irvine (UCI) on a full-tuition scholarship. Sunny Zia earned her Master of Science in Water Resources and Environmental Engineering from UCI with honors and became both a licensed professional engineer and a registered Civil Engineer through the state of California.

For the past 13 years, Sunny Zia has served as a Contract Compliance and Project Manager with the Port of Long Beach, California. Her achievements involving the Port of Long Beach include leading efforts to launch and fund the $870 million Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility. Partnering with Port of Long Beach officials, she also successfully helped lead the establishment of the Maritime Center for Excellence, which provides technical education and training in various maritime fields. Since 2014, Ms. Zia has concurrently served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Long Beach Community College District.</description>
