         <title>Lead Iodide Precipitating</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This video shows the forming of a solid when potassium iodide and lead nitrate are added together. Immediately, when they touch, they form a precipitate made out of lead iodide. Lead iodide is the new substance being created in this chemical reaction. This chemical reaction fits three of the components of FACTSS. These components are color change, new substance is created, and the formation of a precipitate . Because this reaction meets this criteria it is known as a chemical reaction.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This video shows an alka seltzer tablet being added to the heterogeneous mixture of oil and water. When the alka seltzer tablet is added it begins to dissolve and releases a carbon dioxide gas. This shows a chemical reaction because a new substance is being created, carbon dioxide, and fizzing is occurring. Fizzing is a part of FACTSS which means that it indicates a chemical reaction is happening.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Ice Pack - Endothermic</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This image shows a person with an ice pack on their ankle. In an ice pack, there are both ionic and non-ionic compounds. The main ionic compound in an ice pack is Ammonium Chloride or NH4CL. The main non-ionic compound is water or H20. This ionic compound reacts with the water and the other non-ionic compounds. Once these begin to react to each other, an endothermic reaction takes place. In an endothermic reaction, the heat is taken from the surrounding atmosphere and put into the other reaction taking place. This endothermic reaction is what creates the cold sensation we feel when using an ice pack. When the ice pack gets cold it is a temperature change. Temperature change is a part of FACTSS which indicates that a chemical reaction is taking place.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Bacon Frying</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This image shows bacon frying in a pan. When bacon cooks the Maillard reaction is taking place. The Maillard reaction is the browning that results when the amino acids inside the bacon react with the sugars in bacon fat creating the desirable flavors and smells associated with bacon. The compounds produced from the melting of bacon fat and the Maillard reaction create the "bacon aroma". The most prominent chemicals that are used to create the "bacon aroma" are different nitrogen compounds. Ultimately, when bacon is cooked, there are over 150 different compounds created and released producing the smell we all know and love. When bacon is cooked an aroma is released and a new substance is created. Both of these things are a part of FACTSS which shows that a chemical reaction has taken place.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Sodium Carbonate reacting with Hydrochloric Acid - Exothermic</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This video shows sodium carbonate being added to hydrochloric acid. When the solute is added to the solvent it dissolves and fizzes. This reaction produces carbon dioxide gas which causes the fizzing. After the chemical reaction is done, it can be noted that heat was released, creating an exothermic reaction. Fizzing and temperature change are both a part of FACTSS which means that a chemical reaction has occurred.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This video shows the burning of sugar over a flame. When the sugar is burned an aroma or smell is released into the air. When sugar is put in heat, it decomposes releasing producing a compound called maltol. Maltol is the compound the produces the aroma that is released when sugar is burned. The products of this chemical reaction are carbon dioxide, water, and maltol. According to FACTSS, producing new substances and the releasing of smells are indicators that a chemical reaction has occurred.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This is an image of bath bombs. They key components of bath bombs that cause the chemical reaction are baking soda and citric acid. When they are put into water, the baking soda and citric acid undergo a chemical reaction causing them to dissolve and fizz. The bubbles in the fizz are made out of carbon dioxide gas. This gas is the new substance that is created during the chemical reaction. Both fizzing and the creation of a new substance show that a chemical reaction has occurred according to FACTSS.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This is a video of a chemical reaction that shows color change. The materials are Potassium Permanganate, distilled water, sugar, and sodium hydroxide. One liquid iss clear and the other a deep purple. When the deep purple solution is poured into the clear liquid and swired together it changes color several times. The color changes from deep purple, to blue, to green, and then finally yellow-orange. The color changes because the chemical compound manganese dioxide is produced. According to FACTSS, both color change and the creation of a new substance indicate that a chemical reaction has occurred.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This video shows the chemical reaction between sodium carbonate and copper sulfate. When added together they make a light blue, jelly like, precipitate. The new substance that is being created in this chemical reaction is sodium sulfate. This indicates a chemical reaction is occurring because it corresponds with the laws of FACTSS. In order to be deemed a chemical reaction by FACTSS, it has to fit one or more pieces of criteria. This chemical reaction fits three of these criteria points, color change, the formation of a new substance, and the formation of a precipitate.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This video shows the reactions of sodium hydroxide and phenolphthalein. Phenolphthalein is  known as a universal indicator. A universal indicator changes color to show the pH of certain solutions. When phenolphthalein is added to a base, such as sodium hydroxide, the solution turns pink. This is a chemical reaction because a color change was shown. Color change is one of the indicators of a chemical reaction according to FACTSS.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Elephant Tooth Paste</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The video shows the formation of "elephant toothpaste". The materials needed for this chemical reaction are hydrogen peroxide, dishwashing detergent, food coloring, yeast, and water. When these materials are added together the hydrogen peroxide is broken down into two smaller molecules, water and oxygen. The yeast acts a the catalyst, or the substance that speeds up a chemical reaction. Since the hydrogen peroxide molecule is being broken down into two smaller molecules, new substances are being created and a chemical reaction is taking place. One can prove that a chemical reaction is taking place by applying the reaction to FACTSS. The Elephant Toothpaste experiment is a chemical reaction because a new substance is being created according to the laws of FACTSS.</div>]]></description>

During this reaction, the sodium bicarbonate is added to the acetic acid creating a carbon dioxide gas. Carbon dioxide gas is the new substance that was formed due to the chemical reaction. FACTSS points to the fact that this is a chemical reaction because a new substance is formed.</div>]]></description>
