They are not afraid to evolve their sound and experiment with unique musical choices that allow them to grow from the usual trappings of a modern metal band.

100 Gecs influences and inspires me in many different ways, from the often humorous nature of their music and presentation, to their one of a kind sound that uses an over the top amount of pop "cliches" to the point of it being humorous, yet still delivers a high effort and enjoyable final product. 100 Gecs also inspires me as a trans musician, as seeing other trans musicians reach both the mainstream and creative success of 100 Gecs inspires me to try to reach those same heights.

Metallica

Metallica is an influence for many bands, both in and out of the sphere of “metal”. Many of the trends and techniques used in metal music to this day were either originated or popularised by Metallica. In regards to how they influenced Bring ME The Horizon, guitarist Lee Mail first learned how to play guitar by learning Metallica riffs and solos. Metallica’s influence looms large over the entire metal sphere, and Bring Me The Horizon is no exception.

The Dillinger Escape Plan

The Dillinger Escape Plan was a very early influence for Bring Me The Horizon, with their harsh, heavy and brutal style of metal. This style especially influenced their debut album, Count Your Blessings, which took heavy sonic inspiration from The Dillinger Escape Plan, but with their own twist on the sound that prevented them from being simply a carbon copy.

Linkin Park

Linkin Park’s music mainly influences Bring Me The Horizon through their comparable journeys of musical evolution, both gaining sizeable fanbases through their unique sound, only to branch out into a different sonic direction, losing old fans and gaining new fans. Both bands had a very similar journey regarding sonic evolution.

Internet/Meme Culture

100 Gecs is a project deeply influenced by internet culture, and especially meme culture. Many of their songs contain samples, lyrical influences and musical motifs from popular internet memes, to the point where it has become a defining element of their sound. Their rise to popularity was also heavily propagated by the internet, with them performing their very first live set in a virtual music festival set inside the popular game Minecraft.

Death Grips

Death Grips’ experimental and noise based approach to hip hop was extremely influential on underground music scenes in the early 2010s, where 100 Gecs originated and where they still take a lot of influence from. 100 Gecs’ more experimental and harsh tracks take a lot of influence from Death Grips. Member Dylan Brady started his music career with several remixes of Death Grips songs.

Limp Bizkit

Limp Bizkit’s irreverent and humorous approach to music mirrors 100 Gecs in many ways, including the non serious approach to lyricism contrasted with the relative amount of effort offered through their instrumentals. Several of 100 Gecs’ songs intentionally evoke the irreverent nu metal sound of Limp Bizkit, with catchy riffs on distorted guitars combined with rather “goofy” rapping.
