The quality of European Development Plan need to prepare it based on the findings of different discussions, workshops or interviews with the key stakeholders. I've already worked with European Development Plan . I applied etwinning projects and I won european quality label, then I went for a KA 1 project to improve teaching methods and to learn innovative tools.
My problem is that in small schools not many teachers are willing to spend their time in improving themselves to help students. Every time I am alone in trying to involve other teachers. And sometimes I feel like Don Chichotte". Help me please!

In my school we have been working with etwinning projects for the last five years. The experience on these European projects is fascinating, the students and teachers are very motivated in this new way of working for a project. A European development plan is a strategic view of our school’s plans for European activities. This plan includes the following issues: Where we are now? Where We want to be in future? How we will get from where we are now to where we want to be?

The European development plan should give a context for the application, and focus on internationalisation and modernisation, identifying staff development needs and making sure that information is disseminated and widely used.

My school did our first EDP last year. In answer from NA we have learned that it is very important to emphasize connections and meeting points between goals and planed activities in project. Hope we do better one this year ;-)).

The EDP is a helpful tool to define the needs of a school and to orchestrate a tailor-made professional development plan. I hope to persuade my headteacher that we will write an EDP in a team. It would be fine to complement a KA2 project with teacher professional training on a similar topic and make use of KA1 options. This would be a very sustainable exercise.

I've worked with the EDP before when filling out the KA1 application for 2 projects my school was awarded.
I would agree completely with the points given in the template provided by Leargas, the Irish National Agency:

the EDP needs to focus on internationalisation and modernisation of the school
it needs to be narrowed down to 3 or 4 key objectives which need to come from the school needs as a whole
the aims need to be strategic, measurable, realistic, and therefore achievable
the EDP must identify development needs
and lastly the EDP must explain how new knowledge and technology will be disseminated to other staff members and the larger community as well.

As an eTwinner I realize how important is to be part of European exchange programs and I have filled a couple of EDP unfortunately without success. What is very difficult is to make ends meet when you try to talk about school needs and ways to achieve modernization and internationalization. You need a strong team of motivated teachers who are eager to learn English at a higher level and to put into practice all their theoretical skills. Moreover the Plan should be outlined and embedded in the PTOF (the 3-year plan the school proposes to the surrounding community) and to do so, representatives of different orders of school included in any Instituition should feel the need to get involved. What we lack most is cooperation both in etwinning projects and in wider planning activities like KA 1 & 2. I am here for this reason, to get as many information as possible to improve my way of thinking and to find tips to involve more teachers.

Last year we tried an Erasmus+ project but we weren´t awarded, however, I have experience in an eTwinning project. I think the most important thing in an Erasmus+ project to pass is to explain the needs from your school and the effects of this project to help your school improves these needs.

I work etwinning projects for 8 years now and I'm very experienced on organizing etwinning projects. Etwinning helped me to open my horizons and be in contact with teachers from all over Europe.
I was applying 4 years for a KA1 action and finally managed to get the funds this year.There are many things that we have to be careful when we apply for a KA1 grant.In my opinion the most ipmortant is to have realistic targets and be specific.We have to write very clear our school's needs and why this action is so important for our school staff,our students and the whole local society.

In the school where I am teaching now a etwinnning project is still ongoing. A few weeks ago we received the students from other schools in ours. I think it was a great experience for both teachers and students involved. I know that early next year 1 of my students will go to Cyprus and the other one to Finland. I have never participated in this kind of project, I just hope to join an Erasmus KA1 project on the mobility of teachers in order to improve my teaching method and to learn innovative tools. When writing an EDP, you have to think about your own school's needs. What needs to be improved? Does that have to do with school subjects, behaviour, integration, ... ? Then start by drafting objectives for those needs. You can get some help from examples you may find online; but remember, you are referring to your own school, so you have to adapt the information accordingly.

I think one of the important things is to begin with an analysis of your school needs. We did a "DAFO" (in English called SWOT) where we found our stenghts, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. I think it's very important to highlight the relationship between these needs and the project. Another tip could be to read carefully the 2018 program guide, where you can intuit some of the main goals which Erasmus+ want to promote (and perhaps gives an added value to your project)and see if they are aligned with your school needs and vision.

I have written an EDP for our last KA1 project and I am writing a new one for the next deadline. I think that is crucial to analyze your school needs and main areas for improvement (a SWOT analysis or a questionnaire could be carry out among school staff) and write the EDP on the basis of the school’s strategy for the next few years, focusing on internationalisation and modernisation of the school. The goals must be very clear, realistic and measurable to implement the plan at short and medium term. It very important to explain the benefits that the project will bring to the staff, the organization/school and for all community, including other schools of the area, so it must include a plan for dissemination. Internationalization plan is a long term process, it is relevant don't be too ambitious and make sure that our aims are achievable in a short term plan. Another interesting tip is to read carefully the 2018, specially the pages 275-277.

We asked for a KA1 to improve our CLIL methology knowledge within our syllabus. Of course it is a part of the school internationalisation project and it reverts to the students. A job shadowing is a little bit more difficult since the school doesn't get a teacher substitute during the mobility.

Yes I have heard about the school Development plan and I know by experience that it is a very important section to fill in a very accurate and detailed way. It has to be written by a person who knows his/ her organization very well, It is necessary to colect information about the staff , stakeholders needs and it is to be written after having asked and done survey on the real needs to be met. Of course, it is necessary to focus on the collaboration of the staff, as any project can be implemented by a team of teachers and staff . Communication among them is important too. We have a KA1 at school. When whe had to do the EDP we gathered together and thought very thoroughly of our school, pupils and teachers assets were. Also, we discussed what we needed to improve and wrote down very simple and specific things that we wanted to be better.

It is important to establish a plan to achieve your goal, step by step and very realistic. Once you know what you need you neet to find the best way to get it, p.e training, peer observation.
Putting it simple: you need to find what makes you different and exploit it, become more specialized. Discover what you need and get it!

Tips for filling in your European Development Plan

There is no one right way of filling in the European Development Plan, but here are some tips:

Have a look at the template prepared by Leargas, the Irish National Agency, as it gives you an indication which points to include in the plan.
Avoid using general information originating e.g. from course providers. This could make your application too generic and too similar to those of other applicants using the same source. The EDP has to be based on the school’s needs and plans, and external people rarely have this sort of information.
One common misconception is that the requested budget has to be substantial so that the project can have impact. However, the size of the project budget does not matter, and even a project with a small budget can achieve its desired objectives.

You may find that some course organisers and job-shadowing providers offer pre-filled application forms; we recommend you do not use these sorts of pre-filled applications, as this can have an impact on the quality of your European Development Plan. After all, these pre-filled applications do not correspond to the reality of your school / consortium needs.

We can't provide you with a standard text to add into your application because every application has to be unique. Remember to look back to other modules and chapters of this MOOC where you have already a lot of information on the Erasmus+ application process, whole-school approach, how to use eTwinning in your project, or tips for the KA1 application!

I think, the European Development Plan is the most important part of the application. If well done, it can give an exact and clear account of the school’s situation, needs and outputs.

But the school is happy, but the idea of an Erasmus project is few. Mobility scares many, though for so many is a wonderful experience. When one runs an etwinning project, one realizes that a training in something is required. Maybe in Clil, in a second language, ICT...Doing a project can clear up where your needs or your school needs are and can give a clue about the kind of training that best feets the school staff.

I never worked with EDP, but I since I have partecipated to an Etwinning project I would recommend any applicant to use it.
Then if I I wonder which is the key element that could make successful an EDP, I would say that the wiser thing to do is to observe attentively the place we live and operate everyday questioning on the deep needs of it.

I partecipated in an Erasmus KA2 project but I was not part of the staff who planned it so I am afraid I don't know much about EDP and I want to learn more because I am going to start a new one and I want to be able to plan it in the right way in order to have the project approved. I designed a KA1 project which obtained a good score (95/100) but was on the waiting list and in the end was not funded. I wrote the EDP thinking about the real needs of the school (which I knew well because I had worked there for about 20 years) and having in mind the goals it was necessary to achieve. My school successfully run a Comenius project and Erasmus plus KA2, moreover two Erasmus KA1. We are host school for University students in the frame of Erasmus traineeship and for jobshadowing.
Our EDP is based on the embedding such experience in the regular school curriculum; the development of a plurilingual curriculum taking into account all languages spoken in our school; the development of eTwinning in the school curriculum as a mean to foster European citizenship awarness, language development, technology development. Our EDP is also addressed to participate at different European events and contexts such Europe code-week, the European day of languages.

I've already worked at a EDP when I partecipate in 2013 to a Comenius Lifelong Learning Programme for a In Service Training. It was a very interesting experience because I learned to select a training activity and to complete the application form of the project. We applied for KA1. We had Comenius and Erasmus+ projects and we gained a lot experiences in the different school systems. We shared corresponding curricula and lessons with other teachers and tried to integrate some new findings in our school system as well. It had a great impact on our school. Also we found out that we had a lack of experiences of Web 2.0, ICT competences. So we decided to apply for KA1, job-shadowing.

European Development plan sounds quite a serious issue. I have the idea that it is connected with bringing Europe and European citizenship to the school community.

We want to make our school more international.

I could suggest to start from the real necessity of your school and not from your personal competences. The most important think is that the project must be coerent in any part and have a good dissemination.👍

I think I'm really lucky as I have participated as a partner or coordinator in Comenius, Erasmus + projects. Up to now we have completed 4 projects and it is my 9th year as a teacher. To be honest, as a teacher from Turkey, unfortunately, can be an obstacle for these projects. Of course, we can carry out many Etwinning projects easily but as we are non EU country sometimes our colleagues from other countries dont prefer us as a partner. My friends, war is everywhere, terrorism is everywhere please don't think every day bombs explode in Turkey. We can do really nice works as we have done up to now.
