Thirteen Colonies - 1776

The thirteen colonies is the colonies that would become independent from England, gain land, and become the United States a new independent country. Before the original united states was formed it was a group of colonies from England that came to the new world. That would then have a revolution an try to gain independence. The thirteen colonies being the today states of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.

United States - 1783

An expanded version of the 13 colonies with the land given by the Treaty of Paris. This was granted to end the war against the US, The French, Great Britain giving the United States land and territory previously owned by British. Once just the thirteen colonies, had now became officially known as the united states.

Louisiana Purchase - 1803

Jefferson wanted land, and the Napoleon needed money. So, they settled on a agreement, the Louisiana territory for $15 million. Thomas Jefferson would then send Louis and Clark to check out the area, which would take them 2 years.

The British Cession of 1818 is also the treaty of 1818. The treaty of 1818 was a treaty signed by both the United States and British. This treaty set the western boundary between the United States and British North America (later Canada) at the forty-ninth parallel up to the Rocky Mountains. Both agreements reflected the easing of diplomatic tensions that had led to the War of 1812 and marked the beginning of Anglo-American cooperation.

Texas Annexation - 1845

The Texas annexation was the 1845 annexation of the Republic of Texas into the United States. Texas was admitted to the Union as the 28th state on December 29, 1845. This happened when the republic of Texas declared its independence from Mexico on March 2, 1836, then they had applied for annexation which they were granted. Leading to the formation of the biggest states in the United States.

Mexican Cession - 1848

The united states gained the Mexican cession because of a conflict of how big or small the border should be. This resulted in a Mexican-American war which ended with the United States winning leaving the Mexican cession with the United Sates.

Oregon Territory - 1846

The Oregon Territory stretched from the Pacific coast to the Rocky Mountains, encompassing the area including present-day Oregon, Washington, and most of British Columbia. Originally Spain, Great Britain, Russia, and the United States claimed the territory. The one who ended up as the sole owner of this land would be the United States in 1846

Florida

The united states got East Florida at a different time than West Florida. It was bought by the united states from Spain for $5 million. The reason for this purchase is that the Native Americans that resided there were attacking people in the states above Florida.

Gadsden Purchase - 1853

The Gadsden Purchase, or Treaty, was an agreement between the United States and Mexico, finalized in 1854, in which the United States agreed to pay Mexico $10 million for a 29,670 square mile portion of Mexico that later became part of Arizona and New Mexico.

Alaska Purchase - 1867

The Alaska Purchase saw the Russian Empire transfer Alaska to the United States for a sum of $7.2 million in 1867. On May 15 of that year, the United States Senate ratified a bilateral treaty that had been signed on March 30, and American sovereignty became legally effective across the territory on October 18.
