3. My role model is my mom. I tell her everything and she helps me make important decisions. My mom also gives me advise when I ask her and allows me to feel comfortable talking about anything. She is very creative and tells me to stay positive and set my heart to achieve my goals. She is always there for me and I look up to her.
5. The top five qualities I admire most in others are funny, caring, confident, smart, and outgoing. When people are able to stand up in front of a group of people and crack a joke easily it shows how comfortable they are with themselves and confidence beams off of them. I also notice when people are caring by the way they look at people and the way they treat others, especially during tough times. Since I am pretty outgoing and up for new experiences I notice when people fit my personality and are outgoing as well. Lastly, when people can crack jokes, act silly, and at the same time are smart it shows what a great person they are.

Literary Response - Family

Sonny has mixed-feelings towards his family and obviously states that their relationship is not the best. His dad is always gone working at the mine, Jim acts as if Sonny was not his brother, and his mom, the only person in his family, stands by him and wants the best for him. One night Sonny and his mom are talking when, “she clutched [his] shoulder, pulling [him] hard against her side. For a little bit, [he] would’ve put his head on her shoulder, but [he] sensed that would be going to far” (Hickam 43). Sonny feels if he puts his head on his mother’s shoulder it would be childish and wrong to do, but feels her love for him more than ever. Their relationship is pretty strong and she teaches him how to be the best version of himself. Although his mom is super caring he sometimes gets sometimes annoyed at her, after all he is a teenage boy. On the other hand, his relationship with his brother is not good at all. Jim ignores him and bully’s him, but Sonny just learns to ignore his behavior. After all, Sonny only knows this side of Jim and accepts it because he feels he can’t change Jim’s perspective of him. One day, Jim said to Buck, “you can kick both their tails for all I care, but do it somewhere else, [ ], dispelling any thought [Sonny] might have had that he cared about [him]” (Hickam 80). For a brief second, Sonny had the hope that Jim cares about him at least a little, but all that is gone when Jim shows his selfish attitude and acts as if he wasn’t Sonny’s big brother. Sonny feels like his family’s relationship could be better, but then again can’t really be changed. He would define the role of family in one’s life as nothing more than people who just live with you in your house and if your lucky, there is one person who will help you through tough times and wants the best for you.
