We understand that her mother has died.
The fact that she talked about the importance of the Kaddish, yet wants to do it by herself (even though she's a woman), shows that she's traditional, yet somewhat ahead of her time- a feminist.
She also comes across as very polite and grateful.

Also- the time that the letter was written was 1916 and the place was New York.

very eloquent writer
"the Jewish custom is very dear and sacred to me"
She believes that women are supposed to only be freed from positive duties of the law when they cannot perform them, but that in general their obedience to the law is just as valuable as a man's.

I think that we can learn that she a women, how had an interesting look on Judaism. I think we can maybe see that she was a women with principles and values.

szold is very loyal to her family's tradition. she is walking her mother's and family's route even though she knows its different from the traditional one. she doesnt think she is less then any men but she understands its not her job to do kaddish.
