You always knew Clint was ready to kick back when the tie was off, and the shirt collar was unbuttoned. 💛 Clint was the one who always had such a way with words, but I'll give it a go.

I first met Clint 15+ years ago as a new transfer student to HSU. I was supposed to be at orientation, had lots of questions, and found myself looking for a staff member. Clint saw me looking lost, called me over to his table, and assured me I was in JUST the right place to get help. A semester later when my husband hit a snag with his admission, he also wound up connecting with Clint. We both credit Clint with helping us begin our journey at HSU. I had the honor & privilege of working in the Reg Office and near/alongside Clint, in some form or other, pretty much ever since then.

Also, what a great Registrar and leader! Whenever he got kudos, he liked to joke "I'm just the guy who signs the checks!" and let the team take the credit...but he was so much more than that: he knew how to bring together great people to do great work, and how to support them while doing it.

Annually, Clint hosted an Ice Cream Soiree for Reg staff and campus partners. He'd bring in all manner of homemade frozen delights - ice cream, sherbet, gelato. Such a 'sweet' act! The holiday white elephant gift exchange was always a blast.

I'm so grateful for the opportunity to get to know and work with Clint. I will miss our Tuesday morning brisk walks across campus to ICC meetings (probably running a minute or two behind because one of us forgot our coffee, or umbrella, or MOST important -sunglasses!!!), and I'll miss our impromptu carpools/chats on the way back to Eureka now and then.

I'm so thankful I was able to see him both act & direct at Redwood Curtain Theatre, to see him sing with the madrigal singers in the atrium of SBS building many moons ago, and to witness some of his many eloquent and poetic speeches. Truly a man of many, many talents.

Rest in peace, Clint. You will be missed so much.

-Jenni Robinson @ HSU

It's such a challenge to realize the world is now without such a kind and gentle spirit. While I don't understand the 'grand plan' that involves losing such a person, I am grateful I was able to work with him. He will be missed by so many and I hope wherever he is, he 'sees' all of us and knows his impact. God speed, Sir. Rest well.
Lisa C.

Back in the summer of 2019, I earned my master’s degree and Clint presented my diploma to me. It was the only celebration I had. It meant everything to me to be recognized for my achievement and especially from Clint. He didn’t have to do that, but he took time out of his very busy schedule, along with my coworkers, to honor me. I will never forget this act of kindness. I am deeply grateful for having had the opportunity to know Clint. Clint brought so much joy to everyone around him. He will be sorely missed. I knew Clint from work at HSU and collaborated with him to solve or navigate some of the most complex and difficult student problems. He was amazing. I felt like I could reach out to Clint with almost any seeming impossible problem with a student and he would have some suggestions or an offer of help. Early in my time at HSU he shared his cell phone number with me and invited me to call him whenever I needed help. His generosity of spirit, willingness to help and ability to put students first will stick with me forever. I miss you Clint. - Maxwell Schnurer

That's when he began emailing me a Starbuck's gift card on the first day that the Pumpkin Spiced lattes came out. He knew how much I loved them.

I can honestly say that I have never known anyone like Clint Rebik and I never will again. I'm grateful that I worked with him those years. He was his own lovely, original self and he is so missed.

Until we meet again...
-Debi

I had no idea of his illness; I had just missed hearing from him. People like Clint have this strong of a way of influencing you, without even you knowing.

Clint was my friend. He was one of those people that you meet in life and regret that you haven't spent more time with. He was my role model on how to be a better person. The world is a lesser place without him.

I knew Clint casually through the ICC and various Registrar-related exchanges. Even though I only crossed paths with him here and there, he really made an impression and always brightened my day. During zoom times, I so appreciated his cheerful screensavers and backgrounds. And, at the end of each semester when grades were successfully completed, he would send out these campus-wide emails that were so positive and upbeat and made everyone feel great. So sorry that he has passed on, but I'm glad I got to overlap in this life with him, even just a little bit. Clint, wherever you are, you are loved, you are an inspiration, you are missed, and I wish you peace.

~Lucy Kerhoulas

We miss you terribly, Clint. I miss hearing you tell us things are "wonky" and that some things are just so "draconian" and how you'd point something out and say "so there it is" but always making sure to end with praise for us "rockstars" and to "keep on rocking and rolling." It's funny how those words and mannerisms are things I miss the most because they were just so you. You were truly wonderful and full of light and you spread that to every person you met. Walking into the office doesn't have the same positivity without your smile or wave or laugh greeting me. It was truly a blessing to have known you, Clint, and I am forever grateful you were a part of our lives.
-Andrea Webb

I met Clint when I was an undergraduate at Humboldt State University. I was struggling with my identity trying to figure out my place in the world as a gay man. Performing along side Clint and getting to know him helped me build the confidence to be myself. His impact on my life is immeasurable.
When my best friend died just shy of his 25 birthday, I was devastated but was unable to shed a tear. Only when I went to greet Clint at the funeral service did I breakdown into a puddle of tears and sobbing. Clint wrapped his arms around me holding me tight. He was my rock through that horrible day.
I remember the day when I met Clint we were getting into our costumes for a performance. The last day I saw Clint we were dressing for commencement.
I will miss him.

Colleague, mentor, entertainer. . . friend. Clint was all of these things. I still can't believe he's gone. The world feels a little bit colder now without him in it.

Clint was the type of guy who always new when people needed a laugh, and boy, could he make you laugh! In addition to working with Clint both at HSU and at Redwood Curtain, I was blessed to participate in Madrigal Singers for three years with Clint (the last three years with Harley Muilenburg at the helm), and I remember one year before our performance at Bayfront, all of us performers were lined up for our entrance in semi-nervous anticipation. . . And Clint started quietly singing "All About That Bass" by Meghan Trainor -- and he got all of us singing along, dancing, and giggling with him.

The picture above is from my wedding, where Clint was one of the speakers, gracing us with his performance of "The Passionate Shepherd", which he'd recited every year in Madrigal Singers (and I performed the companion piece during our years working together). Clint was an outstanding actor and made every role memorable.

Clint really knew how to make a team come together, too. As several others mentioned, his homemade ice cream socials were absolutely legendary, and his annual office holiday lunch and gift exchange was a treat I looked forward to all year. Clint was the sort of guy who was always ready to listen, genuinely kind to everyone and so caring. And he really wanted what's best for our students at HSU, to support them and advocate for them.

Clint was just unbelievably special. . . really so much so that it's hard to describe, so I'll quote a song that's been running through my head since his passing:
"And wherever you've gone, and wherever we might go, it don't seem fair -- the days just disappeared. Your light reflected now, reflected from afar. We were but stones. Your light made us stars."
From "Light Years" by Pearl Jam

Farewell, my friend. I hope to see your smile again in the next life.

-Kristin Heese
