I considered myself a leader even before LEADS - work and skills-wise, that is. However, the activities and talks throughout the 3 days led me to realize that knowing how to do the work was not enough. Through LEADS, I got to learn from and alongside some of the most remarkable people I've met. These people gave me new insights and perspectives on leadership that I carry up until now. LEADS does not try to form each participant into a certain type of leader, but it gives each participant a chance to grow at their own pace and in their own way.

Applying for LEADS was no small feat, and I'm glad that I pushed through with it and got accepted. It was like a rite of passage for me. It made me participate in activities that honed my leadership skills and helped me meet new people. I really didn't know what to expect, and that was part of what made the event so fun and memorable. Overall, LEADS has to be one of the most unforgettable events that I've attended, and I'm really happy to have been given the chance to know myself and other MEAns better.

Going through LEADS will always be one of the best experiences that I’ve ever had in college. It pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and, honestly, to just be myself. Although the add reqs will ask you to take a lot of wacky and humiliating photos, it’s all gonna be worth it once you get accepted, trust me. You see, LEADS pushes you to be the best that you can be and it will not take no for an answer. It will open up many opportunities for you down the road to really help you grow. Not only that, but LEADS will also show you why the upperclassmen say MEA is a home. Through this project, you’ll get to meet a lot of great people that will be there to help guide you in every step of the way, and it’ll make you realize that the upperclassmen are actually pretty cool and not scary at all. You can always go up to any one of them and they will be willing to help you out… as long as they’re not stressed with acads that is. If you’re still unsure about applying, I’d like to share a very cliché saying that goes, “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you gonna get.” Take the risk, there’s nothing wrong with trying! Whatever happens, you’ll come out better than before!

From start to end, LEADS is not some project you can petiks. The app process itself required me to step out of my comfort zone-- look for upperclassmen I didn't even know for Human Bingo, and try to be funny in my add req video. As in no shame talaga. Come the event itself, there were more in store for us! After each activity, I thought "what could be more malala than this?" Yeah... I was wrong. LEADS keeps you on your toes, and throws everything it has at you, but it's still up to you if you'll make the most out of the experience. You can let your shyness and fear control you, or you can embrace each challenge, have fun with it, and discover that you can do so much more.

I was honestly very skeptical about the whole LEADS experience from the first time I heard about it until the last day of the actual seminar. When I was applying, there was so much hype from the upperclassmen, but I couldn't imagine it being any different from the typical leadership seminars I attended back in high school. Nevertheless (and because I was required to), I went through the gruelling app process and got in. During the seminar itself, I had even more reservations. It most definitely wasn't like any leadership seminar I had gone through before, but I still couldn't see the hype. It was only on the last day when I looked back at the whole experience that I had that lightbulb moment and saw the significance of everything we had done. Being pushed out of my comfort zone definitely made me uncomfortable, but it was worth it because it made me more outgoing and confident in my capabilities. So if you have your reservations about LEADS, trust me and go finish your app. You have a lot more to gain than lose if you go for it.

Lucia Lorenzo LEADS 2016

Everyone who's gone through LEADS will tell you that it's a push out of your comfort zone. They're right, but even so, LEADS doesn't push you to transform yourself into an ideal leader. It teaches you to be YOUR ideal leader, because everyone has his or her own personal leadership style. As someone who's not that outspoken, I gained more trust in myself (and in the process of learning) after LEADS. LEADS helps you realize that leadership is a learning curve for everyone, and that the only way to really become a leader is to take that step yourself. So go and power through those AddReqs hehe it will be all worth it in the end :)

Annicka Koteh

Honestly, I didn't know what to expect from LEADs. Everyone kept telling me to go, but I felt skeptical. This was probably because I was never a big believer in leadership camps, and I never felt the need for someone's advice. I mean... being in ME gave me the perception that I was capable to excel in college on my own - that I didn't need guidance or much help. This being said, after much deliberation, I gave it a try, and after my experiences, I can genuinely say that I don't regret a single second of my time spent in LEADs. I realized a lot like what I'm capable of, what I need to improve, the importance of humility, self-control, unity and many more. LEADs brought out the most out of me - it made me face some of my inner demons, but it also made me appreciate the extent of my capabilities. This is why, every time I look back, I feel appreciation for MEA and all the MEAns who gave their time. It really helped me learn more about myself.

All things considered, I really recommend to try out LEADs. Not only is it an avenue of self-discovery, but also it is a place to make new friends and grow closer as family. Don't waste this incredible opportunity!

Pao Co

I was always curious about LEADS because of all the hype it received from the upperclassmen. Honestly, I was put off applying at first because of the lengthy application process, but I'm glad I pushed through with it. The LEADS experience didn't actually help me become a better leader, though. Rather, I was able to get to know a lot of people I could look up to because of the leadership potential I saw in them. I thought I was a good enough leader because of my experiences in High School. LEADS humbled me because I realized I was far from good enough. I realized I still have much to learn throughout my leadership journey. Meeting fellow leaders in LEADS allowed me to have a more growth-oriented mindset, and because of that, I am truly grateful!

-Tiff Lao, LEADS 2016

LEADS appealed to me from the very beginning because of what all the upperclassmen were telling me, but I didn't think I could make it through the daunting application process. I'd already decided not to go through with it but people kept pushing me to go. So on the date of submission, I somehow managed to do all the AddReqs, and that's how my LEADS journey began. To this day, I'm still so happy I made the decision to join. LEADS wasn't anything like I expected -- it challenged me both mentally and physically. Everyday there was something new to learn about myself as a leader and about those around me as well. It's also because of LEADS that I learned how to step out of my comfort zone, and it's where I met many MEAns who have played a big part in my college life. Looking back, I think LEADS itself didn't change me, but it's how I used the lessons I learned from that weekend to become better that did.

Andi Lim, LEADS 2016

To be honest, I didn't know much about LEADS ('di siya masyadong na-hype back then ng upperclassmen). I also believed that I wasn't the leader type back in high school (more on behind the scenes worker ako), but I took a chance and applied for LEADS nonetheless. If I could describe the entire LEADS experience (from applying till the end of the event) in one word, I would have to say LIFE-CHANGING. All LEADS graduates will say that LEADS really makes you go out of your comfort zone, but it also helps you discover the leader within you. Going through LEADS made me embrace the leader that I could become. I was also blessed to meet so many people who also shared the same burning passion to lead as I did as well as the desire to help others find the leader within. LEADS will always be one of those projects that I will always go back to because I made a commitment "to help others improve themselves and in helping others improve themselves, I myself can improve as well". So if you are still unsure about applying for LEADS (dahil mahaba yung apps process, madami may balak mag-aaply, tinatamad ka, natatakot ka, etc.), I would like to say "There's no harm in trying" and "Nothing great happens when you hold back".

Chris Puen, LEADS 2015

Leadership was something I developed in high school so hearing of another leadership seminar to attend, it was almost natural for me to apply. LEADS was so different from everything else I've experienced. The application process was longer and required more effort, while the seminar itself tested some things I never thought to attribute to leadership. LEADS to me was an experience - it was so much fun and it was a good way to meet & bond with people, especially ones who have potential in leading MEA (and other orgs/things!) in the future. More than helping me with soft skills and leadership training, LEADS made MEA more of a home to me, and it will always be close to my heart. ♡

Danie Evan, LEADS 2016

Whenever upperclassmen say that LEADS is super solid, LEADS was an amazing experience, or LEADS was one of their most memorable experiences in MEA, they aren't exaggerating. LEADS is such a unique and memorable experience that can only really be truly described by experiencing it yourself. LEADS will really push you to your limits and that's one of the things that really makes it special. Between numerous skills learned, friendships made, and memories shared, you will most definitely take something valuable out of LEADS.

Marco Ozaeta, LEADS 2016
