After Fidel Castro's comes to power he brings his communism regime, the Soviet Union worked quickly and secretly to build missile installations in Cuba. The Bay of Pigs Invasion was a failed military invasion of Cuba. The invading force was defeated within three days by the Cuban armed forces. On October 16 1962, President John Kennedy was shown reconnaissance photographs of Soviet missile installations under construction in Cuba. After seven days of guarded and intense debate in the United States administration, during which Soviet diplomats denied that installations for offensive missiles were being built in Cuba, President Kennedy, in a televised address on October 22, announced the discovery of the installations and proclaimed that any nuclear missile attack from Cuba would be regarded as an attack by the Soviet Union and would be responded to accordingly.

The significance of Cuba in the war against Communism was that the Communists spread to a island right next to the United States. When Cuba and the Soviets formed an alliance it spread fear to the U.S. that the Soviets would try to start a revolution of Communism. After the U.S. got control of Cuba, the Soviets then started building military forces in Cuba which made the U.S. in total fear of an attack on the U.S. so they quickly warned the Soviets of any attacks will be dealt with. This crisis in Cuba resulted in both the U.S. and Soviets building more and more weapons to show their power.
