Yes, I feel as though there are tons of academic pressures especially living in a town with very good school systems. In Sudbury, there are also pressures about having a boyfriend or girlfriend but for me personally, this has not had as much of an affect on me.

The author suggests that there is way too much pressure on kids and even adults these days since Craig becomes so overwhelmed from them that he ends up in the hospital.

I do believe that the novel's message matches my own experiences with academics and social pressure, such as having really good grades because I attend a good school.
