         <title>Demystify Coding and Robotics through unplugged activities and indigenous cultural games by Phuti Technogranny Ragophala from South Africa </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Coding has roots that stretch back long before the advent of digital tools and computers. Our great-grandparents engaged in various games and activities during their leisure time to sharpen their minds and pass the time. Although they may not have documented their knowledge as comprehensively as we do today, these activities laid the groundwork for many modern coding concepts.</p><p>Indigenous games such as dipela, moruba, hopscotch, hockey, snakes and ladders, diketo, and others, as well as activities like knitting and weaving, embody fundamental coding principles. These games and activities share similarities with the digital games we use today. For instance, both analog and digital games involve:</p><p>- Motions and patterns</p><p>- Computational thinking</p><p>- Algorithmic steps</p><p>- Decomposition</p><p>-Debugging </p><p>-communication</p><p>-collaboration </p><p>-convention </p><p>-problem solving </p><p>-design </p><p>- Workspaces</p><p>- Wording and naming conventions</p><p>- Levels and blocks</p><p>- Design elements</p><p>My advice to educators is to introduce coding concepts through these traditional, unplugged activities. For example, paper plane folding involves algorithmic steps and problem-solving, and it can also be explored digitally. By starting with simple, familiar activities and gradually progressing to more complex ones, we can capture learners' attention and stimulate their curiosity.</p><p>Let us embrace the richness of our cultural heritage to make learning more engaging and inclusive. By bridging traditional games with modern coding techniques, we can create a more holistic and culturally relevant educational experience</p><p>In summary,  Jean Piaget theory of learning "Start from Simple to complex when teaching children"  What the child knows forms a strong foundation in learning the new knowledge.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Scratch to Unity Converter</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away a seed of an idea for bridging the gap between Scratch and Unity was born!</strong></p><p><br/></p><p>The galaxy wasn't actually that far away, but the idea really was born quite a long time ago. Working at Unity as a Senior Developer when the seed of an idea came to me and as a Senior Manager now that the seed has grown into a small sapling in need of love and attention, I feel strongly that there is a natural connection between Scratch and Unity. A connection in need of a bridge to help children cross that gap!</p><p><br/></p><p>I've been working towards bridging this gap in my spare time as and when spare time actually exists. Some months it exists in abundance whereas in others it tends to hide under the sofa cushions where nobody can find it.</p><p><br/></p><p>With that said, completion is now in sight. There are some shaders to add, a lot of optimisations to do and some gnarly blocks to conquer ("say" and "ask" blocks really don't lend themselves to Unity conversion!) but the tool can convert some pretty complex projects these days.</p><p><br/></p><p>[Note that the YouTube clip is a little outdated and the tool has progressed but the video does give an overall view of what I'm aiming to achieve]</p><p><br/></p><p>I'm interested to hear if people have use cases for this project, what those use cases might be, whether this has a place in a curriculum or teaching plan and generally to garner feedback that will fire my enthusiasm to finally bring this project to completion! This hands-on MathDance workshop is an opportunity for future leaders to learn mathematics, computer science, and AI in a holistic and integrated manner. Participants will develop a fun game using a Machine Learning (Deep Learning) tool and the Scratch programming language.&nbsp;</p><p>In this first session, participants will start by learning Scratch coding and basic mathematical equation graphs. Once the concept of AI/ML (Machine Learning) is introduced, participants will practice image recognition projects using Google’s Teachable Machine. Subsequently, participants will learn how to connect Scratch code to an AI model trained on the cloud and build a small, simple image recognition app. &nbsp;</p>]]></description>
