Can a third year student take second year options?

If you are a third year student, you are usually entitled to take 30 credits from Year 2 modules. However, this may vary depending on your programme. If you are not on the LLB law please check with the Hub.

How are modules allocated? Am I likely to get the modules I would like to be on?

Whilst we can never guarantee modules. You are likely to be able to take the modules that you have chosen if you have followed the instructions correctly on the Student Record System. The exception to this is the Access to Justice Clinic, as this is necessarily capped in size. This will be determined randomly.

Can I take a module outside of Law?

The general rule is that you are permitted to take 30 credits of modules outside of law. However, the module needs to be at the correct level of study, some modules also have pre-requisites which means that you must have taken something else before taking that module. Some departments also may not allow students from other departments on the module. Please check with the Amory Hub.

I am a third year, can I take more credits in Term 1 then Term 2 or vice versa.

No, each term must be weighed equally. You must study 60 credits per term. You cannot take five modules in one term and three in the other.

Dissertation is not required to receive an 'Honours' Degree.

This module is not run by the Law School but it is run from the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies. The module is open to Law Students.

Hi, just wondering if the Employment Law module exam (worth 50% of final grade) will be a 24 hour exam? Will it follow an IRAC model , or will it be an essay based exam? Or will you have the choice over either! Thanks!

Hi there, just wondering if there is any guidance regarding the selection of your research Q? For example, are there a selection to choose from or do you have to come up with something independently? Are you given any examples of topics students have chosen in the past? Are you only advised to take this module if there is an area of law you are REALLY into? Sorry for all the questions! TIA

Missing Modularity Options

Some modules listed as available for modularity on the Exeter website do not appear in the Modularity Options stage on SRS. Am I right in understanding that these modules may become available to Law students later (in September), subject to priority being given to students on the host programme and to course capacity?

We are getting a few emails about this module. Yes, we can confirm this is definitely running next academic year 2026-2027 at Year 3. Sam Brookman is the excellent module convenor - she's had her drop-in this week, but please let her know if you have module-related questions.

In terms of SRS/OMS, some students are unable to see this module. We can confirm that it is definitely running - if experiencing problems on SRS, then please speak to the Amory Hub,

SRS - Media Law IS confirmed next year!

Just to say that Media Law is confirmed as Year 3 module; it is being convened by our excellent practitioner Sam Brookman!

There are some issues on SRS with this module 'not appearing'. If that is the case for you, please can you speak to the Amory Hub.

Employment Law: Assessment Structure/Word Counts

David, Matthew and I are receiving some queries about the assessment structure and word count for next year's Employment Law module.

In Term 1 - There is a formative (750) to help with the coursework as the summative. The summative coursework word count is 2,000 words.

In Term 2 - There is an exam for the summative, but Kim has designed an excellent course that will scaffold your learning in preparation for this exam.
