Granite is a course-grain rock, which consists of larger particles instead of fine-grained small particle rock.  The larger particles will prolong the naturally occurring weathering and erosion process that breaks down the rocks into smaller pieces.   This process can happen quickly or it can take over thousands of years.

This journey can take thousands to millions of years. I live on a mountain near a lake with a lot of ledge.
