Leon Brown was charged for the murder and rape of 11-year-old Sabrina Buie. Brown is intellectually disabled, he has a very low IQ, and he was 15 years old when the crime was committed. Police ended up questioning 19-year-old Henry McCollum(also has a very low IQ) about the murder, and he later confessed and told the police that him and some other teenagers did the crime, one of those teenagers being Leon Brown. Leon also confessed. They confessed, due to harsh questioning, stating that they were scared and just wanted to go home. Only McCollum and Brown were arrested, not the others, because two had alibis that were substantiated, and there was no evidence for the third one. Leon was convicted on October 25, 1984, and he was exonerated on September 2, 2014. He, and McCollum served 30 years, before being released.

~Randy was born on March 19, 1945 and became a successful computer programmer.
~In 1967 he graduated from Claremont Men's College with a degree in economics and was in the air force for 1 year before being discharged on grounds of homosexual behavior.
~In 1966 and 1975 he was arrested for lewd conduct.
~Randy is classified as a serial killer who is also known as "The Southern California Strangler" and "The Score - Card Killer".
~He was a lethal sexist sadist and was linked to 67 murders spanning 3 states but only convicted of 16 because they were proven conclusively.
~Of Kraft's suspected 67 victims, 22 remain uncovered and unidentified.
~Police found out that he worked for a Santa Monica aerospace firm between June 1980 and January 1983, visiting company offices in Oregon and Michigan at the times of unsolved murders in both states.
~His murders consisted of rape - mutilation and the method he used to kill his victims was strangulation.
~He pleaded not guilty.
~He was arrested on May 14, 1983 and his trial dragged on for 13 months but was finally convicted on all counts in May 1989.
~The penalty phase of his trial took 4 more months.
~ He was formally condemned on November 29th 1989.
~He is currently awaiting execution on death row in San Quentin Prison in California.
~Joseph Alwyn Fancher, was his first known victim who was a runaway at 13.
~ Kraft took him home where he drugged him, Joe was semiconscious when he was stripped and sodomized. He escaped Kraft's apartment and eventually lead police to Kraft's house to search for his shoes where police found illegal drugs and photos of Kraft enjoying sexual intercourse with various men but since the search was done without a warrant, police new their case was doomed and didn't make an arrest
~Unable to claim innocence, Kraft's lawyers called a psychiatrist to testify that his violence was "something that he had no control over"
~The state then called Joe Fancher who was jailed in Orange County to describe Kraft's assault in 1970 when he was 13 years old.
~He told jurors that "there is nothing wrong with him other than that he likes killing for sexual satisfaction". Jurors agreed and recommended the death penalty on August 11, 1989
~In 1993 he fielded a $60 million libel suit against the publisher and author of a book about his case, claiming the volume had unfairly portrayed him as "sick, twisted man" thereby scuttling his "prospects for future employment!" The lawsuit was dismissed by California's Supreme Court in 1944.
~He also claimed that California's gas chamber violated 1st Amendment religious tenets by forcing a condemned inmate to "actively participate in his own killing".
~ That was quickly rejected but he had other legal tricks up his sleeve.
~Certain details surrounding some of his murders have caused many to believe that he didn't always act alone.
~Forensic evidence in 2 cases point to an accomplice: an extra set of footprints and semen that didn't match his DNA.
~During the trial members of prosecution admitted that they didn't charge him for murders they knew he committed because of these facts.
~He would also have trouble moving 200 pound bodies, and dumping them from moving cars would also be difficult and the snapshots he had of his victims had to be processed somewhere but no developer reported the morbid images to police.
~According to members of the prosecution team Jeff Graves occasionally helped him but he died from AIDS before police could question him, so the question of Kraft's accomplice was never raised in court.

Leon Brown was free to go, due to the evidence that was found.
-A beer can found near the scene was sent to DNA testing. The DNA did not match either McCollum or Brown.
-There was a cigarette butt found near the crime scene. The cigarette was sent to DNA testing and revealed that the DNA on the cigarette did not match the DNA of Leon Brown. However, it did match a man named Roscoe Artis, who had a history of sexual assault. Also, only weeks after the mureder, Artis confessed to raping another girl in Red Springs.
-Roscoe Artis told an inmate that McCollum, and Brown were innocent. That inmate later told the lawyers for Brown and McCollum, and stated that Artis knew a lot about the victim, and some facts about the crime, such as the color of her underwear, and how she was killed.
Based on this evidence, Brown and McCollum were released with $750,000 in compensation.

~Kraft was nearly arrested in 1975 because 19 year old Keith Daven Crotwell left Long Beach on March 29 1975 by Kraft and a month later Crotwell's severed head was found. Long Beach scoured for the car that he was last in which was quickly located and linked to Kraft.
~He was question on May 19, 1975 which he admitted giving him ride but claimed that he left him alive at an all night café.
~Detectives desperately wanted to charge him with murder however, L.A. County prosecutors refused, citing the absence of a body or known cause of death.
~After that he remained free and continued killing young men for 8 more years.
~Shortly after 1 a.m. on May 14 1983 Orange County officers pulled him over for weaving.
~Randy got out of his vehicle and began walking toward the officers vehicle and when the officers walked him back to his car they found the body of Terry Gambrel who was slumped dead in the passenger's seat. He had been strangled with a belt.
~The officers searched his car and found 47 photos of young men; some of them were nude, unconscious or dead. They also found a briefcase with the notebook.
~When they searched his home they found photos of 3 men whose deaths were still unsolved.
~The charges against him were 16 murders, 11 counts of sodomy, 9 counts of sexual mutilation, and 3 counts of robbery.
