There are many low-tech options for helping learners with writing. Some of the most common and easy to implement are:

Pencil Grips

Pencil grips are useful for learners who struggle with holding a writing utensil well. These grips come in different sizes, thickness, and texture. They aim at allowing individuals with poor ability in using writing utensils to better grip the pen or pencil.

Writing Board

Writing boards are often slanted board that can hold the paper for the learner. These are adjustable and can be useful for learners who struggle to write when the paper is on the desk. Sometimes learners can not sit in a way that allows them to look down (for example if they are in a wheelchair or unable to move their neck). These writing boards can be useful because they allow for learners to write in the best comfortable position.

Lined Paper

This is a super simple assistive technology that can be implemented very easily. These are useful in allowing for learners to write in straight lines. There are different variations and can be easily changed or altered according to the specific needs of the learner.

This tool can be used with any student although typically is seen within students that receive OT and PT services through the IEP process. However, the teacher still has their professional discretion to utilize them to help students in the classroom. Oftentimes slat boards are used to help students that are struggling with core strength, posture, difficulties with visual tracking, pencil grip, and board to paper coping skills during handwriting. - Mykah

There are a variety of these types of wiggly stools available on the market today. They allow the student the freedom to maneuver and move as they please while working. It is important to teach students how to utilize these tools so they do not become a problem or a nuisance within the classroom. The one aspect I do like about the Hokki stool is that when the student is too wiggly or their core is tired they can flip the stool over and it stays still for them. This is a great tool that is an easy adjustment to any classroom. This tool is not limited to just your students struggling with ADHD. - Mykah

These are great to utilize for students that struggle with attention or hyperactivity within the classroom setting. There are many varieties of these types of chairs out there. I found this one is of high quality and sturdy. With any flexible seating there must be taught acceptable uses within the classroom so the students know what is expected from them. One aspect that I do like about the rocker chair is it allows slightly more rigidity than a stool but still allows a student to move while working.
