<title>December 1984- My parents and I moved to Bangkok, Thailand. I was enrolled in the French School, which at the time was quite broke and a building attached to the embassy. There was such a culture divide but since I had moved there so young, I never felt like an outsider or an imposter. I was always taught to respect the country and respect my environment and their rich history. </title>

<title>1984-1992. French School. I went from kindergarten all the way to the 5th grade. This was where I experienced corporal punishment. -If your cursive wasn’t good, you would be smacked on the head with a small ruler.-If you were late, you would sit outside on your hands.-There was a small box that was rickety that you had to stand on. I remember having to memorize a poem and being afraid to fall off the box which made me forget the poem even more.</title>

<title>1992-1998. Moved to the New International School of Thailand. It was a British school with the Cambridge Educational system and testing. Began being involved in sports, theatre, art, choir and band. I was also placed in ESL since my English was so bad. I had to have an English tutor to catch up and she turned out to make me fall in love with English and especially English Literature. -ESL class: I had to learn that I shouldn’t speak unless I was perfect and knew exactly what I was saying and what I meant. All of this was extreme pressure placed on children who were just assumed to learn English as being the only acceptable language that would show value on who you were and how you were educated. </title>

<title>1998-2000- Moved to the International School Bangkok (the American school and system)-American philosophy: I was at a school where debate was encouraged in class. Where if you spoke or asked questions, you were not faulted but welcomed. There was no condemnation or wrong answers. This optimistic behavior I came to believe was the ‘American culture’. Being open-minded and free to speak was not the norm both from the European aspect of schooling nor the Thai strict schooling philosophy which is where I lived. </title>

<title>2000-2002-Simmons College -All girls college. I thought I was a feminist and was proud of the film/French/theatre work I was doing but I also realized that being a feminist does not mean having to hate men. A lot of my classmates did, and I thought that was absurd. -School Choice: I was being sold into the idea of this Magnet school. The idea of an all-female inspirational mission statement was very endearing to me. I felt like I would be sharing into a whole new philosophy and acceptance of expressing myself. </title>

<title>2002-2006- Wagner College-School Choice: Liberal Arts school sounded appealing to me after being at an all-girls school and suffering some major tragedies in my personal life and environmental catastrophes that changed all of our scholastic lives forever. I did however suffer from having to repeat a lot of my credits that I had received from my International Baccalaureate and had been able to be cleared from my previous school which made me furious. The American system had debased all my hard work and scholastic efforts that I had done and dismissed it. I was reduced to re-doing courses that I had passed in my 11th grade classes no less. I became very bitter. I was also bitter because of the prejudice I was faced with. I did not fit in. I might have looked white, but I thought differently, didn’t share any of the same values and made most of my American dorm mates feel uncomfortable. They returned the favor. Out of all my scholastic life I have never felt like as much as an outsider as I felt when I was at this school. The racist comments and slurs they made at me in regard to where I had lived or me being French were disgusting. I was very uncomfortable and did not feel at ease</title>

I never fit in college life in the US. Americans didn’t know what to do with me. I lived in Asia but I was white. My mom was French and I was raised European. In London, I felt like I belonged. I got to study History/Theatre/ Acting and I loved every moment.</title>

<title>2008-2009- Southern Cross University, Gold Coast Australia. MBA International Tourism and Hotel ManagementAustralia felt like a 2nd home. After the tsunami and the threats back in Thailand, I felt this was the best place to study and I was right. I fell back in love with education. I was passionate about what I was studying, I was living at the beach, and I had an extremely international community of friends with whom I shared memories I will never forget. </title>

<title>2019- TEFL Academy. I loved taking this course because it wasn’t the first time, I had tutored but now I was learning about making lesson plans and what teaching was truly all about. I was getting the tools; I was getting the practicum and I was getting more confident about my style of teaching. I realized how much drama and my international background helped me. You must be very visual and creative when it comes to teaching a new language. I also had the background that English was my second language so I knew how I would like to be approached and did the same. I knew how to put them at ease and felt comfortable with students ranging from Korea to Turkey. I fell in love with teaching these students.</title>

<title>2021- MAT at American UniversityI’m really enjoying the courses so far. I am learning so much about the American educational system which I have never experienced. I had never encountered racism and seeing how horribly present it still is was an absolute eye-opener. I am enjoying also learning about the theorists and how I can improve my teaching culture and style. What should be done and the issues that we are facing nowadays, especially with race and COVID. I also really like the discussions with my peers. Hearing their different points of view and engaging in topics that we all find interesting and engaging.</title>
