A simple and effective way to eliminate aphids would be to use water from the hose to rinse them off the plants. High pressured water is unnecessary as aphids easily fall off and it can damage the plants. Once aphids fall off, they usually can't climb back up the plant and starve to death.

Aphids have several natural predators such as ladybugs, green lacewing larvae, and parasitic wasps. These insects can be added to help reduce aphid population and the best way to get them in would be to add a plant to help attract it into the area. For example, ladybug's are attracted to sunflowers so planting those could help naturally bring ladybug's in to kill the aphids rather than buying ladybug's and throwing them onto the plant.

Chemical insecticides can be used to help reduce aphids but it should be the last resort after all other methods fail. Some examples include insecticidal soap or horticultural oil. When choosing an insecticide, make sure to choose one with minimal impact to pollinators and natural enemies (e.x ladybugs) but still effective on the pest. Sometimes, insecticides may need to be applied twice. Check before that there are aphids still alive before applying unnecessary insecticides again to reduce environmental risks.

There are many different kinds of aphids but the most common type is the green peach aphid or the peach-potato aphid, also known scientifically as Myzus persicae. They can be found worldwide and all throughout North America. Aphids are extremely small insects growing up to only 3-4 mm in length. Some can also develop wings. Despite their size, they are considered as the worst garden pest due to their destructive nature and rapid ability to reproduce. Aphids feed off of the juices of plant leaves, stems, and flowers. They absorb the nutrients found in the plants phloem as their main source of food. They are highly destructive and can also transmit plant viruses (e.x Barley stripe mosaic virus). Furthermore, wingless adult female aphids can reproduce between 50 to 100 offspring at 12 different times a day! In addition, newly born aphids (nymphs) become fully reproductive adult aphids in a week!
